What are the side effects of antidepressant amitripylin? A friend of mine was hospitalized with diagnosis of depressive illness. He has changed a lot since has been on therapy. What is the action of that drug like? He’s been in hospital for last 3 weeks. How long does it usually take to drug start to work?

It can take up to 4 weeks to develop efficacy of amitriptylin. It has plenty of side effects, but also is not used without necessary needing. Patient on therapy with this antidepressant may experience confusional states, disturbed concentration, even hallucinations, disorientation and some other behavioural disorders. Also, blurred vision, urine retention, hyperpyrexia and dry mouth may occur. These are not all side effects of amitryptilin.
