Hello, I recently starting to experience blood and pain with stools that were hard on the tip. Over the last 3 days I have ate apples, oatmeal and raisin bran to help overload myself with fiber.. I was using preparation h hoping that would help, but it didn't. Today I have applied neosporin and after my second bowel movement, I am just about pain free. Neosporin is designed to help treat cuts and make them heal fast. If you can use it for a few days and get a good amount of hours with it applied, it should help... Also, raisin bran is very good for fiber. At least 15 g in the bowl I eat. Good luck

Help please. I have been bleeding for 3 months already. Whenever I pass a stool, there are 1-3 drops of blood. I am really worried that I might have a decrease of blood levels or even worse. I need help. What can you suggest to help treat this anal fissure. :(

Fissures can, and often do, last a whole lifetime. I am an older male, had a fissure for over 40 years. My first fear, on seeing blood down the pan, was cancer of the colon, but a barium meal procedure, diagnosed the fissure. You do need to keep your stools soft, lots of water and fruit works for me, but once in a while constipation and the abrupt blood in the pan, will remind me that the condition is chronic. Not good news, I know, but I have learned to keep a spare set of underwear, just in case.

I have been suffering from a contstant dull anal pain and extremely painful bowel movements for about 4 months. It turned into pain 24/7 over the last 6 weeks. The pain was the worst I have ever experienced. I could not sit, ride in the car, or go to work. I was stuck laying in bed or sitting in the tub. I was desparate for pain releif. I saw my primary doctor who gave me Proctofoam HC and suggested Colace 2 times per day. He also gave me Hydrocodone for pain which did not help at all. The Proctofoam HC helped a little when used morning and night, but if I used it after BM the burning pain was so intense. I would just sit in the shower and cry. I tried every cream that was available OTC, Tucks wipes, Prep H Wipes and they only caused more pain.
I was finally able to get an appointment with a colorectal specialist. The examination was VERY painful, but worth the pain because he was able to tell me it was an anal fissure with a skin tag below it and a throbmosed hemroid beside it. He said fissures usually occur in the front or back but mine is on the side. He suggested that I completely change my diet to include lots of fruits vegetables whole grains and NO meat or dairy, take a warm bath for 15 minutes 3 times per day to relax the muscles in the area, and perscripbed Rectiv cream. It will take about 6-8 weeks to heal if I do everything right and don't cause it to tear again.
Three days later I was feeling alot better. I only had slight pain with BM and could finally live normal life again. Since I was feeling so good, I decided to go out to eat fast food with my friends at lunch. BIG mistake. I tore the fissure again which resulted in alot of pain and bleeding. Learned my lesson quickly that I have to stick to this diet if I want to heal. I am having a fruit smoothie for breakfeast with added fiber powder, salad for lunch with 1/2 sandwich made on whole wheat bread, and steamed veggies with baked potato for dinner or soup. I take colase morning and night and 1tsp of fiber powder in water with each meal. Drinking 8-10 glasses of water per day. After four days I can feel a scap developing over the fissure. The pain is pretty much gone. When I do have BM I use a wet wipe to clean after and then sit in warm bath and force water into the anal area to clean the fissure the best I can. Then I put some neosporin on the scab which I came up with on my own to hopefully speed up the healing.
Hope this helps.
