Your post is very encouraging. I was taking Claritin for a year to prevent a different skin condition, cholinercic urticaria, which is triggered by heat and humidity. I usually stop taking it in October once the weather cools. I began having “pruritis ani” in October and it’s been endless no matter how many creams I have tried. I just realized today (I wish I did months ago) that maybe it’s some form of allergy that the Claritin was preventing it all along. In addition to strictly stopping all scented soaps, lotions, etc, I’m Starting back on Claritin today. Praying this works and that this is not a life altering diagnosis of lichen sclerosis or inverse psoriasis.

Ice Cream! Give it up to stop chronic anal itch! I already take Loratadine every day for allergies. So that didn't help. I got used to having ice cream in the middle of the night after surgery for relief from dry mouth from pain meds. I can't sleep more than a couple of hours from fibromyalgia and lifelong injuries pains anyway and ice cream with chocolate milk felt like heavenly comfort. Little did I know it was causing me itching that was driving me mad! I decided to go on a diet gave it up and the itch went away along with the need to scratch myself raw and bleed all over toilet paper until I paniced I would die soon from infection! Maybe not ice cream for you? Try giving up other foods, milk, chocolate, etc.

Long time sufferer of anal itching here. I finally have it beat by using Metamucil (or any psyllium husk treatment for hard stools), tiny scoop of probiotic powder in a glass of water, and the death knell to it, a mix of zinc cream and ichtamol ointment for about 2 weeks. Just a small dab of both on your finger tip and rub it around. The relief was almost instant. It's finally gone and the only thing I'm doing now is using the psyllium husks (metamucil) to keep my stools soft. Hope this helps someone.

I have piles and have anal discharge sometimes. Discharge and itching in perianal area is more at night - 3 to 4 hours after dinner. What could be the reason? Anything to do with diet?

Thank you so much for sharing this with us. It really means a lot. I've been having anal itching for many years now but didn't really go to the doctor and get it checked bcuz of the very obvious reason. I'm embarrassed. Every night I would have to itch it or it just won't go away. The next morning It'll burn down there when in contact with water. I have rashes all over bcuz of the itching too. I've just taken my first dose of loratadine. I hope it works. I would really love to be soundly asleep.
