I know that facial angiofibromas are one of the major cutaneous manifestations of systemic sclerosis. That is something I had to find out since my father had this problem. These lesions caused significant cosmetic disfigurement lead to emotional distress. Unfortunately, the treatment of these lesions with various therapeutic modalities has not been very satisfactory. That is why I want to hear if that is normal situation with angiofibromas; can you tell me more about it?

This is normal with facial angiofibromas, because of the multiplicity of the lesions and the presence of the lesions at anatomically difficult sites like nasolabial folds. Beside this, it could affect and chin, upper lip, nose and periorbital areas, particularly so in mentally retarded uncooperative patients. It is famous doctors treat such patients with CO2 laserbrasion with good cosmetically acceptable results. Facial angiofibromas in systemic sclerosis cause significant cosmetic disfigurement and emotional distress, which is normal. The treatment of these lesions has been a challenge because of the multiplicity of the lesions. Moreover, it was challenge because of presence of the lesions at anatomically difficult sites. Four female patients between 12-22 years were treated with carbon dioxide laser. The lesions in all patients were vaporized with the indigenously developed C02 laser; I believe you will see this. There were no other significant side effects, and CO2 laser seems to be a good therapeutic tool for the treatment of extensive facial angiofibromas.
