Has anyone had any success with femara as a fertility drug thread.

Please continue posting within this thread.
Hello All,
I have been reading posts and blogs now for about 18 months, and never shared my story. My DH and I have been trying for 18 months now, the Doctor said I have unexplained infertility, SA normal, HSG normal all the tests have been normal. We tried Clomid 100mg for 5 cycles I did get +OPKS all 5 months but no pregnancy. I am now 6dpo and took Femara days 3-7. Has any one had success with Femara? I need to here the positive stories, it keeps me hoping!!!
Thanks- Baby dust to all! :-D

I have been reading your stories online for about 5 months now and I feel that the time is right for me now to share mine. My husband and I have been trying to become pregnant for about 2 years now with no success at all. We first started on the estrogen and prgestrone pills during my cycle. We counted cycle days and used ovulation kits, all with no success. Finally I went in to have an HSG test, where the inject the high pressured dye through the tubes, only to discover that my left tube was blocked. Months after this news and many tears later, we had outpatient surgery to remove this tube. This didn't make any sense to me at all, but my fertility doctor assured us that this would boost our chances. We tried the Clomid at 50, then 100, and then 150mg. Still no luck. Currently I am taking my prenatal, folic acid and one baby asprin a day. Yesterday I just completed my doses of Femara and every day I feel myself losing the strength to continue to fight this battle. I come here to be encourged by you guys who have been there, done that and are still hanging in there. I plead to you ladies now, please do not stop posting your woes and successes as you give hope to many of us out here seeking emotional support.
Thank you all.

Hi,

I'm not so sure of anything anymore after my DH and I went through 4-1/2 years trying to get pregnant. I do have history of low progesterone and luteal phase detect. We sought to RE 3 years ago because we were getting hopeless so we jump in to conceived our twins through an egg donor through 2nd round of IVF. We also fallen under 'unexplained infertility' where my DH's s/a is fine, HSG was clear/normal, and etc.

And now the twins are '2' year old, girl/boy. I wanted to give them a younger brother or sister to feel completely in our family. Our twins will have NO cousins only each other as we have a very very small family on both side are all gone.

I went to see my OB/Gyn DR asking them to help me to get pregnant with baby #3. I did 3 round of clomid (1st-50 mg CD5-9, 2/3rd at 100 mg CD3-7). The very first clomid cycle I had a great result but RX came too late to start me on prometrium "Prochieve". By 2nd and 3rd round of clomid it went downhill with 2 follicles between 13-15mm. The OB/Gyn only did u/s and b/w and all 3 times of clomid I did ovulated with p4 at 15.5 and 15.9.

I am seeking another form of medicated treatment without going through IUI or IVF again. It is very costly and my DH has only agreed that I can take medicated treatment. He does not want us to go through all of that again.

Here I was hoping a glimpse of trying to get pregnant with medicated treatment. I knew somewhat my chance are slim because we tried for years. I wanted to look back in a few years later to say we did tried to get pregnant with the knowledge we did everything we can.

I am going to go back to my OB/Gyn on another consult to see if I should try 'Fermera'. I was not told that I have PCOS when we saw RE. I am wondering if I do have it?

What are the method that you start when taking fermera? On what days and how does it work for 1st cycle?

Merry Christmas,
RJ

Thank you for this site - it has helped to see that I'm not the only one with fertility issues!! My story: I have an amazing 3 and 1/2 year old daughter and we're now trying for # 2 - we've been trying for over a year now with no success - I got pregnant with my first child very quickly and without any problems - the whole experience was amazing! Never in a million years did I think I'd have this much trouble trying for #2. Last May I tried Clomid for two cycles - no success - had HSG and was fine - husband sperm is perfect - blood work fine - then in Aug/08 I started Femara b/c the side effects with clomid were awful - didn't have any of the side effects I had with clomid; however, I experienced alot of hair loss - I did 4 rounds of Femara and started noticing the hair loss after the 2nd round so now I'm off of it - did anyone else experience this - it has totally freaked me out and I hope the Femara did not do any permanent damage to my body - thanks, still hopeful and praying

My husband and I started trying for our first baby almost 9 months ago only to find out 5 months into that I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). I do not ovulate on my own at all. After being on birth control for many years and always having regular periods with that, I was shocked to find this out. The women in my family are known to be extremely fertile. We've had all other fertility testing done and we are in great shape otherwise. We just can't seem to get me ovulating. I started on Femara, 2.5 mg for 4 days, after taking another hormone (the name escapes me) to induce a period. After 3 ultrasounds thru days 10-18 there was zero growth by my follicles. We are currently on round 2 of Femara, 7.5 mg for four days. I have my 10 day ultrasound on 1/17. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I'd love to hear experiences from others who may have gone through the same thing I'm currently dealing with. It's only been 9 months and the stress and sadness of the unknown are already weighing on me quite heavily.

I will post again with any good news or anything that may be helpful.

Hi All!
I have just had ovarian drilling after one and half years of trying to conceive with clomid, metformin, dufastone and progesterone and just about every drug in the market. My doc has put me on Femara this cycle and I hoping ill get preggers with this.....All this medication ive had and also the anticipation and then disappointment has really made me super moody and depressed.I think ive forgotten who i really am with all this pain and anxiety.....I think im reaching a stage where im like just get this over and done with....ive had mild ovarian hyper stimulation syd also which is bloody painful.....so keeping my fingers crossed....my hsg was all clear....if anyone needs any info on pcod, ovarian drilling, clomid etc plz let me know via this thread ill be glad to provide more info.If femara does now work then its IUI and finally IVF.The ovarian drilling has helped me lose weight and keep the weight off....i lost about 5 kilos before the lapro and have managed to keep it off without ANY dieting or exercise.Im also still taking metformin which is helping with the weight. This came as a surprise for me cause prior to the surgery every lil piece of chocolate i had wud show on the scales :-)

god bless and good luck!

I am happy to see so many success stories here. I just took my first round of Femara. I have PCOS and used clomid to conceive my 2 1/2 year old daughter. But that didn't work for me this time. I was ovulating but my follicles were extremely large and didn't produce a healthy egg. I tried acupuncture too. That didn't seem to change anything. My endocrinologist is who put me on the femara. I am hoping to have success as we have been trying for #2 since July. My doctor has me on 2.5 mg but if this doesn't work, I may call him to up the dose next time since everyone that had success seems to have had the 5.0 mg. Thanks all!

I have learned a lot reading everyone's stories. My husband and i have an appointment with our fertility doctor Wednesday morning for the dr. to check my ovaries, and give me the script for fermara. I am encouraged by everything I have read here. We have been trying for two years to get pregnant. Cross your fingers

I tried clomid for 10 months 2 different times and even did inseminations and did not get pregnant. My first month using famera...well...it worked and I am now pregnant. I did not even have an insemination. I will use this next time I plan on getting pregnant.

I conceived both times on the two rounds of Femara I've taken. Unfortunately, both pregnancies ended in miscarriage--but this was due to a thin endometrial lining/improper clotting/and an overactive immune system.

Femara definitely worked for me. Good luck, ladies.

If this isn't a reason not to use Femara when TTC, IDK what is. This is from Femara.com, copyrighted 2009.

You should not take Femara if you are premenopausal. Your doctor should discuss the need for adequate birth control if you have the potential to become pregnant, if you are not sure of your postmenopausal status, or if you recently became postmenopausal. Femara is only indicated in postmenopausal women.

After the stillbirth of our son (our first child) in 2004 due to an umbilical cord accident, 7 IUIs with Clomid/Repronex and a failed IVF cycle, we opted for 4 cycles of Femara ending 11/08 because th issue had finally been traced to my husband (so much for "experts" who found it easier to tell me I am "old".) I had one menstrual cycle between stopping the femara (and turned 40) and getting pregnant.

Our joy turned to horror on June 2, 2009 when @ our 19 week u/s it was revealed that our baby girl has both Trisomy 13 and holoprosencephaly. The data sheet the geneticist gave me has "hormones" listed as a cause for HPE, so I went googling about Femara. Sadly, after burying our son 4.5 years ago, we are going to lose what was supposed to be our first living child as well to what can probably be traced back to Femara. It supposedly metabolizes "quickly", but I was pregnant one cycle after stopping it.

There you have it, straight from the horse's mouth (Femara.com) about the dangers of taking it in pregnancy. I am currently pursuing a malpractice lawsuit based on the above information due to RXing it off label. If it's dangerous enough to put a "use alternate BC if you could POSSIBLY get pg" is on their website, why isn't this in the hands of EVERY fertility dr who rx's it off label?????

Sorry to be a buzzkill about what appears to be a "Miracle" drug with some nightmarish side effects.

I was diagnosed with PCOS a couple years ago. My OBGYN put me on Metformin 500mg a day. After a while it still wasnt doing much so we bumped it up to a 1000mg a day. My OB said that was about as much as he could do so he sent me to the RE(reproductive endocrinologist).

He has been wonderful the entire time. Ive had an HSG to check my tubes which are clear. Also a Semen Analasis for my hubs. He has great swimmers, some are a little off in shape but other than that (which is pretty normal) hes doing fine. He was beating himself up thinking it was him...I knew it was me. Which I was beating myself up over.

My RE put me on Glumetza 2000mg a day. Its an extended release form of glucophage. Ive been on that for 4 months so far and the last two Ive had perfect 28 day cycles. I feel so much better now. Ive lost some weight and Im more active, its wonderful.

This Wednesday Im doing my first cycle of Femera and and IUI. Reading these stories have helped me so much. Im so hopeful now.

My husband and I have been TTC for a year now. I was diagnosed with PCOS about a year ago after not having my cycle for several months after going off the pill. I started taking metformin and have taken six rounds of Clomid; all unsuccessful. I then had the HSG to find my tubes were clear and my husband was checked and came back normal. My doctor then prescribed Femara to begin on the next cycle; which did not come. I tested positive for pregnancy. This happened between the fertility meds. Unfortunatly, I just miscarried at about 5 1/2 weeks. I start Femara on my next cycle and am glad to hear of the success some individuals have had. Fingers crossed this works for us.
