Hi everyone,

Im due to start taking Femara tomorrow.

Im 35 and DH is nearly 38. We have one daughter who is 3 years and 4 months. My DH and I have been trying for baby no 2 since Jan 08 so its know 22 months. We have tests and I had a Lap n dye done in Sept 09 and it came back all clear and ok. My DH's sperm morphology is abnormal only 4% are ok!! My consultant prescribed me Clomid but I decided not to take it because of the awful side effects. So, Im starting on Femara tomorrow I hope it works.

I have found this site very helpful.

I started Femara this cycle, my doctor prescribed me 6 x 2.5mg on day 3. My ultrasound showed a follicle on my right ovary, a bit on the small side, but I definately ovulated which is great! I'm just worried after reading the post about the lady that lost her baby and thinks femara is the cause. My doctor didn't tell me anything about the possibility of birth defects etc and he now wants to double my dose next cycle 12 x 2.5mg all on day 3. Is anyone else taking the pills all together like this?
I was also wondering what ovarian drilling is, never heard of it?

I have been reading all the replies in this forum for awhile. I didn't post but now I am getting discouraged and thought I would tell my case.

I am 25 and me and my husband have been ttc for about two years now. I am about to start my third month of femera 5mg days 5-9. I read all these posts before I started taking them and was so hopefull. But most say they concieved with there first month so now I am getting discourged! My problem is that I don't ovualate, but with Femara I was able to ovualte but still not pregnant!
Maybe this month!!

I am 26 and DH is almost 30. We have only been trying to conceive for 6 months and the doctor kept telling us positive things. I was diagnosed with PCOS in my early 20s and was worried so I went with my gut and got tests run which showed that I wasn't ovulating. I am on my first cycle of Femara and am a little nervous. I have read all of the information on the medication. I am only on 2.5 MG for days 3-7. Has anyone else been on a treatment this low?

My husband and I have been ttc since 10/08. Tried Clomid (husband & myslef for 6 months and no pregnancy), checked tubes (open), semen analysis ok but moph a little low. I just started taking Femara 2.5mg x2 for cd 3-5 and a hsg shot. Scheduled for a basleine ultrasound this week before I start round 2 of Femara. Doc lowered lowered dosage for this month to 2.5 x1 for cd 3-5 and ovidel shot on cd 12.

How long are you supposed to wait to take a pregnancy test? I have tried for three times (since day 28 to 40) all came negative but I still dont have my period. Can anyone share their experience? This will be my 3rd round with Femara, but in reality the second one.

The reason you haven't had your period yet is because you didn't ovulate. You'll need to get progestrone tablets to jump start your period again.. that is the reason that you've been testing and you just keep getting negative results.

Birth defects with Femara only occur if taking it WHILE pregnant. All studies done show there were no birth defects caused by using Femara to GET pregnant.

I too have PCOS, no ovulation or cycle whatsoever. My husband and I have been trying for 6 years with no success, and I can totally understand how many others feel. We've done the clomid route, up to 150mg, and just found a new doctor who is starting me on femara for my next induced cycle. I've taken all the meds there are out there, with nothing working. So, even though the only thing I've ever wanted, even more than having a wedding, is to be a mother - I've been let down so many times that it's difficult to get my hopes up. So many times I look at my husband and feel inadiquate because I can't give him what we both so desperately want.

I have been taking femara for seven months now and have not had results. The doctor is starting me on clomid next cycle. I thought femara was actually stronger than clomid and feel like i may be taking a step back. Has anyone else took femara and then took clomid and it worked?

I was very nervous about taking Femara. I took it for one round with no success. The doctor increased my dose to 2.5 mg twice daily for days 3-7 and dh and I are currently 8 weeks pregnant with our first child! I hope that the rest of you enjoy the same success!

I have PCOS. I tried Clomid and Ovidrel for 5 or 6 cycles. I got pregnang one of those times but miscarried right away. After taking a break for a year my OB recommended using Femara. I took one pill a day for 5 days. It was successful the first time. I now have a healthy 3 month old son. No problems with my pregnancy and no birth defects. I would not hesitate to use it again when we try for another if we can't conceive naturally and I would recommend it to anyone else who has tried Clomid and had no success.

I just thought I would post my story with Femara for positive encouragement. I have PCOS and was nervous about conceiving. My doctor put me on 2.5 mg of Femara for one month to see if I would ovulate. No luck. The dose was then upped to 5 mg. I went in for an ultrasound to determine if I had follicles for ovulation and sure enough I did. Well I am now 14 weeks along. Femara does work. Hope this gives a little hope.

My husband and I have been trying unsuccessfully for 2 years now, I do not have a regular cycle, my MC my range from 36 days to 4 months.  At which point I must take Medroxyprogesterone to induce my cycle.  We have gone through 4 cycles of Chlomid, my MD recently rx'd Femera to me and I am on CD 28, and am anxiously waiting to see if it worked.

Thanks for all the information you all have posted, it has been beneficial in knowing what others have gone through in similar situations.

my RE requires a blood pregnancy test before ordering it, because the hormone is only dangerous if you have taken it within a few days before conception.  I have combed the information on the web again and again and i keep getting the same results, femara is less dangerous than clomid and making sure to test before prescribing it is the safest way.  for some of us who have medical histories which make taking clomid incredibly dangerous, Femara really is the right drug to use, not always. I think most RE's are aware of the potential, that is why the blood pregnancy test is required.
