It depends on what kind of cyst it was found. It could be sebaceous cyst, formed by too much sebum accumulation that turned into a red, painful cyst. They appear when oil glands produce too much oily substance that has no place (open pores) to leave on the skin surface and it starts accumulation under the skin. They can also form on the scalp, testicles, labia, and back.

Another cyst that may be even more painful and ooze puss is called pilonidal cyst. IT occurred due to ingrown hairs in the back just above the but crack. Depending on if it got inflamed or not, it could be either excited and drained by a doctor or you could prevent it from becoming inflamed by having frequent sits baths.
