I would like to know what arthoscopic surgery on a hip labral tear as well as a cyst on the hip caused by the tear would involve as well as the recuperation period.
Hello! My brother-in-law was in pain for over a year when they diagnosed him with labrum tear. First they couldn’t find what the problem was at all. Once diagnosed, he was given corticosteroids but they didn’t help much, and then his doctor suggested surgery.

He decided to accept it because he was aware it was the only thing, as drugs didn’t provide any relief. Some time after surgery, he said it was the best decision as he was totally free of pain that has been troubling him for so long.

The surgery was on an outpatient basis. First, he needed to use the crunches for some time and he complained about the pain in the buttocks but it subsided soon after. He had to under go a physical therapy that lasted for about a month but it could last up to three months. He started straight away. I remember he had to ride a bicycle and do some stretching exercises.

After the post-op buttock pain subsided, he had no problems with pain at all. I remember that he was so amazed.

Have you already decided to go for the surgery?

I guess that the recovery period depends upon a person and their individual progress but my husband’s brother was driving 2,5 weeks after and sitting in front of his computer.

For an acetabular labral tear, what are the risks if a surgery (hip arthroscopy) is not performed? What alternative therapies are suggested? Does this lead to arthritis of the hip? thanks
