Is astaxanthin vitamin? How does it work in human body and what is rda for astaxanthin? I haven’t seen that it contains in common vitamin supplements. What food is rich in astaxanthin? What are the symptoms of deficiency of astaxanthin? Please post.

Astaxanthin belongs to family of carotenoides. It is actually not vitamin but has protective role in human body because has antioxidative effect. It is red pigment that is found in krill, crawfish and some yeasts, but in very low concentration. So its primary sources are synthetic forms like naturose and bioastin. Astaxanthin is called vitamin x and works as very strong antioxidant, much stronger than vitamin e is.
