Just found this site as I'm sitting at the computer trying not to focus on my pain. I just had a hysterectomy and a tummy tuck 6 days ago. I have never been so uncomfortable or in pain in my life. I spend quite a few of my time crying. What hurts the most is my back. I have lower back issues that nobody has figured out why, but since the surgery I'm having a hard time finding a comfortable position and the back pain gets worse. Some people tell me not to overdo it and some people say try and go about your day and don't stay in bed. Jeez, I don't know where the middle is. MY draininage tubes are the second worse of it all. I hate them. They are in the way and something is always rubbing up against it. I even think one of them has stopped working. They are supposed to come out tomorrow or Tuesday. When should I start feeling better? One lady said she was at the doctor's office a week later all done up hair and all. I do good getting a shower every day and brushing my teeth. I don't see the end of the tunnel and feel like c**p. Any words of wisdom here would help.
You may not be aware of it but your severe backache could be coming from hysterectomy procedure and not tummy tuck. My mother had total hysterectomy 2 years ago and she also experienced low back pain. I suppose it was because she started moving and being too active too soon after the surgery.
When everything started happening, I did a little bit of research and I realized she was not the only one. There were so many women that had the exact same low back pain following hysterectomies.
One woman even wrote that her doctor said it might happen but all of these women were really worried as they had severe back pains. My mom had it for like 4 weeks when it finally started subsiding. Her pain wasn’t disabling but it was uncomfortable, as if hysterectomy at the age 44 wasn’t uncomfortable enough.
Anyway, I read something interesting, about a woman contracting CES after having hysterectomy done. She was also suffering from very severe back pain and had to undergo additional surgery. CES stands for Cauda Equina Syndrome and represents a compression and damage of nerve roots (cauda equina) at the lower end of the spinal cord. The disorder is rare but when it happens, it is considered a surgical emergency as it can cause permanent paralysis, impaired bladder and/or bowel control, loss of sexual sensation, etc.
So, it doesn’t mean that you will develop this syndrome if you have back pain following hysterectomy but you could ask to have x-rays done if you haven’t already.

I had a hysterectomy in feb 08, and since then I am in severe pain in the lower part of my back.
I wake up every morning in pain and that is the way it will be all day. I opted for an epidural for pain as I was told the pain relief would be a lot better,,,,, but it wasn't and for some reason I am putting the back pain down to this!!!
I also have bad pain down both my legs and like one writer I also have a very red and tender scar and tummy.
Nobody tells us of all these side effects and it's not right!!!!!!!!!!
