A small tender cyst has appeared around my vagina. It grew quite big actually. I got scared and went to see a doc and she told me that I have developed a bartholin cyst. I was given some antibiotics and told to do sit baths in order to promote drainage. What I would like to know is how and why on Earth did this cyst appear!!!!!!

The Bartholin glands are located at the entrance to a woman's vagina, one on each side. They are small but can get infected and the cysts form. The cysts actually form when the glands become blocked. When this happens, the fluid that is produced by the glands accumulates and causes the swelling aka cyst. If bacteria is present, it may causes abscesses. It could be any bacteria like any of the STDs bacteria and even intestinal bacterium like Escherichia coli.
