Yes ! It is ... I take lamictal 100mg a day and I'm thinking about to IUD or Nexoplanon
I have been on lamictal for 14 years now and I had an IUD implant (paraguard) in for 5 almost 6 years before I became pregnant.
Ugh I hate to say it but the effectiveness of bc is lowered when taking lamictal. I get a friggin lecture every time I go to my obgyn, pharmacist, primary dr, and psychiatrist. And I have to say every time "yes I know for the 1000th time" (I know legally they have to say it but my God) I take the pill for my skin and I have shorter periods on it which does make me think "well clearly it's effecting me if my skin clears and my periods are lighter" BUT better safe than sorry and it's 100% true that lamictal effects the BC so don't risk it
Hi,
Lamictal/Mirena combo for 8 years. No pregnancies.
Lamictal/Mirena combo for 8 years. No pregnancies.
I have been on lamictal for almost a year now, for bipolar, and I went on birth control two weeks ago. The birth control has definitely lowered the effectiveness of the lamictal, according to my psychiatrist, my therapist, and myself. Also, wondering if hallucinations and paranoia could be a result of the medications interracting? Anyone else experience odd interactions between them?
Birth control decreases the effectiveness of lamictal by as much as four fold! The BC might be less effective too. But definitely when taking lamictal as a mood stabilizer along with BC you might have to increase the lamictal as much x4.
