Removal went great. No pain at all. A tiny bit of pressure for a couple of seconds. No cramping afterwards. I got my period 2 days later but its not heavy like other women have experienced.
I'm sure you will be fine!!
Good luck!!!

Can anyone please tell me when the bleeding stops after the Mirena comes out? Mine fell out on September 23 after about six weeks of terrible pelvic pain and constant heavy bleeding. After the Mirena fell out, I experienced so much heavy bleeding that I became severely anemic (blood was 5.6) and had to get a blood transfusion. I was given four units of blood. Now the bleeding hasn't stopped one month later. It has been mostly light but goes up and down. At the moment, it is heavy with big clots. The doctors have suggested birth control but I don't want to use any more hormones. At this rate, I am losing all the expensive blood I got! (I didn't have health insurance and had to pay out of pocket). What am I to do? This bleeding just won't stop! I feel like the biblical woman with the issue of blood! I'd just like to know when the bleeding stopped for those who had this experience after removing the Mirena. Thank you.

I did not have any problems with my Merina while it was in. In fact I actually liked it. I got mine removed almost 4 months ago. It didn't hurt too bad, It was painful while they actually took it out but then it was fine. I started bleeding right away, it was just like a light period. However now I have super heavy periods. Like I will soak a super heavy tampon in about an hour. My periods are normal length wise and I am regular to the 28 days but I have never bleed this much in my life. I asked my doctor and he tested me for anemia and thyroid (still waiting for the results) he did tell me to give it up to 6 months for the bleeding to slow down. Something to think about. I honestly don't know if I would ever get another though because this sucks.

I am not sure how long ago this was posted. I saw one date said 2007. Just wanted to inform the women out there that this problem is still accuring in 2012. I had my Miena IUD placed in April 2009. 2 months after i gave birth to our daughter. We recently decided that it was time for another baby, since our daughter is now 3 years old, going on 4. I set my appointment for October 22, 2012. The IUD was removed on the last day of my menestral cycle... The very same day i could feel the blood pouring out. So I placed a tampon. It didnt bleed through like I read about some moms. But when I removed it, I had blood clots shoot out. :/ Today will be a week exactly, the bleeding has slowed down plenty and I am not safe with a panty liner. Im guessing my body had to clean my system out from the 3 year when my perios were alot lighter than there should have been. There is hope and the bleeding will stop, just stay off your feet as much as you can. TTC for now :) Good Luck!

I had my mirena in for 3-1/2 years. It has been great. i would only get my period every 3 months and it would only last about 3 days. Up until the last month I really had no problems. i started to gain weight and had a bad headache for about a month straight. I started to do some research about the mirena and decided that had to be the problem. So I went to my doctor to have it removed. She said this can not be the cause of my headaches. I went a head and had it removed. The next day I was very crampy and my headache was even worse. Sunday I started to bleed. I had a couple clots, then I stop Monday morning. Sunday my headache went away and I have not had it since. Tell me I don't know my body and that the mirena was not the cause of my headaches. The bleeding finally completely stopped Wednesday. I was also very emotional the first 4 days after having it removed. I would snap for no reason and felt like crying all the time. But now I feel normal again. The only issue I am having now is I have like a yellow leakage. Not sure what that is about. Other than that I feel great. I am glad I did not have the major bleeding problems like some women are. I was really scared that that was going to happen to me.
If anyone is having the yellow leakage let me know.

Thanks so much for the quick response! I've had mine in for about 4 1/2 yrs, but since I've heard about all the problems people were having, I didn't want to take any chances. Like you, I haven't had any problems with it either.
I am in a similar situation. I had my mirena taken out on the 8th November after 5 years. I had a great experience with the mirena, with the exception of a few months of bleeding initially. I was very sad to have to get it removed but excited to start thinking about trying for a child in 2-3 months’ time.
I had the mirena fitted when I was under general anaesthesia, so didn't feel anything at the time of insertion, however as I haven't yet had a child when it was taken out it was painful as my cervix wasn't stretched from child birth. While it was painful, it did only last a few seconds.
I started bleeding the very next day and it’s been on and off since, although not too heavy which is good. I am still bleeding and wondering how long it will last and if it's my actual period or simply a result of the removal as it’s certainly more than spotting but not super heavy.

I have had the Mirena for almost 11 years and am currently on my 3rd one! I have never found them to be anything other than awesome! In the 11 years I have had them I have not had any periods or spotting until recently and even then the spotting I have is only visible when going to the bathroom.
I am due to have my Mirena taken out next week to try for baby #3 - I am excited and apprehensive all at the same time - I hope that I dont experience the heavy bleeding that some of you ladies have had and not sure what will happen as I will be on day 14 of my cycle when it is removed...
I was hoping to start trying straight away as it's removal lands on my ovulation days but not sure if this is a good idea or not??
