I had the IUD Merena for almost 2 yrs. and I got it out 2 days ago. I couldn't stand all of the infections I was getting, the constant spotting and the pain and bloating in my lower abdomen. I'm pretty sure I was starting to get my period when I got it taken out and now I am bleeding pretty heavily which I am sure is normal for after removal. My nurse put me on the pill right away and I took it as soon as I got it. My husband and I did stuff the day after removal, after all the comments I am seeing, I sure hope I didn't get pregnant. We don't want anymore kids. Could I have gotten pregnant if I took the pill right after removal?

Thank you so much for your answer! I just read nearly 8 pages of everyone complaining about the post removal bleeding and asking when it stopped. Not one person ever updated their post letting us know when it did actuall stop. I got mine removed on Feb. 10 after 5 years of having it. It is now Feb. 24 and I am still bleeding steadily with heavier bleeding off and on accompanied by clots. You just gave me hope. My doctor called in Nora-Be for me to take to lighten the bleeding. I DO NOT want to take anymore hormones. Therefore, I am not picking up the prescription. My husband is getting a vasectomy and I will just enjoy mother nature from now on. I bled lightly approximately every 2 weeks on the Mirena. I will happily take a 7 day period every month over that any day. I am looking forward to feeling better and regaining my normal sex drive. The Mirena is the worst thing I have ever done to my body. I will never mess with mother nature again. Not even with a birth control pill. I am feeling better already. I just wish the bleeding would stop, but I will just wait it out.

Hi all,

I just recently removed my IUD a week ago and I've been bleeding since the 2nd day. Heavy, bright red, and clots. I called my doctor and she said it's just my body getting back to normal. She said I will have about two weeks of "abnormal" bleeding til my body adjusts back to normal so hang in there all you newbeeies, the end is near.:-D

my daughter was due nov 22ed. i had the IUD put in 6 weeks after. the same day i got it in i had cramps but no bleeding went a week still had cramps obgym said id have cramps for bout a week so didnt worry much bout it. then i started bleeding really bad i was bleeding for 3 weeks and went to my obgym about it and she checked me and couldnt feel my strings anymore and she tried to find it and couldnt find it she tried for 10 mins. then sent me in for an somagram to see where it was and they couldnt find it for 5 mins then they found it and tried to get if for another 10 20 mins and looked at me and said im trying one more time if i cant get it this time im seeing u for same day surgery then got it out i was never so happy. it was out of places and that it was possable that when my boyfriend and i had sex that he pushed it farther in me and ask if i wanted it replaced or taking out and i said i wanted it out that i couldnt take the bleeding or cramps anymore and to have sex was just painful. so they removed it for me and ive been spotting ever since its been about 2 months since ive had it removed and i wouldnt recommend anyone else!!!!

I just had my Mirena removed on Tuesday, because my husband and I want to have a second baby. I had it in for almost three years. I had my period the week prior to getting it removed and seem to be having it again since getting it removed. How long can I expect to have bleeding for? I am anxious to start trying for our second child!!

I just had my Mirena removed 3 days ago, I started having heavy bleeding yesterday and I made a tea using an herb called Shepherd's Purse which is used to stop heavy bleeding. I also have been drinking a tea with red raspberry, an herb that is good for uterus health. They have made the bleeding just about stop and have made me feel so much better. If you google your symptoms I'm sure you will find a natural remedy to the problem that will not cause any side effects.

Kaileene,

I had my Mirena out in early February and had the same question. I bled for 16 days. I was very frustrated not knowing how long it would last and could not find very many answers, so here is an answer to the question so many women want to know. I know everyone is different, but this was my experience. I will also never get the Mirena again after having it for 5 years. I didn't realize how much it affected me in so many ways over the course of the 5 years until I had it removed. Feeling great now!

I just got my iud taken out 6 days ago and started bleeding immeditely. The cramps are more horrifying then having the iud in and im getting extreme stringy clots. So i called my ob and she said it is very normal for this to happen. Your body just has to adjust to you not having it anymore. But you still can get pregnant whether its peirod or not. Hope this helps!!

First let me say how much I fell for all of you ladies who have had Mirena...my 19 year old daughter had it put in per a specialist ob/gyn...she had a bicornate uterus and endemetreosis..this was the great idea from the doctor...she had it put in one week ago today and was at the er last night and the doctor said get it out NOW!!!!  They removed it but now she is in MORE pain than before we even got the thing!!!  Mirena should be taken off the market and I will tell everyone I know not to get it!!!  My daughter had a severe allergic reaction and now we are back in the same boat as before we got it...she has always had bad bad periods..she only has 5 days a month that she does not bleed that is why we were trying this!!!  I pray for all of you who have had bad troubles with Mirena IUD and if you have one in get it out NOW!!!!!
