I went on a friday to have the mirena put in, the following wednesday I was bent in two with the worst cramps of my life, so on the Friday (7 days after having it put in) they removed it and I have been bleeding heavy ever since just like all of you changing my tampon every 2 hours. Its very frustrating for both myself and my partner, is this normal and has anyone found anything that helps or stops the heavy flow?

Can anyone tell me how long this HEAVY Bleeding with very large clotting lasts after having the IUD Removed. I am now Anemic and on Iron Pills and no sign of this stopping. This IUD should be banned from the market, nothing but problems from the beginning!

I had the mirena for about a year and a half. I gained about 30lbs and began to have terrible migraines. I decided to remove it myself after I researched and found many women having the same problems as I. I didnt have 1 period while on the mirena. 2 days after removal i started spotting. I have been spotting off and on. I removed it 2 weeks ago. There have been little clots, nothing major. I am wondering when my period will come. I dont know if the spotting is constituted as a period. Also, it just started this week but when my husband and I have sex, I bleed when I orgasm. I dont bleed before that, its shows up when ive orgasmed. I dont know if something is wrong or if its just buildup that is being pushed out when I orgasm. Its really irritating and I would like to know when the spotting stops and I get my actual period, and also when this bleeding w/ orgasm will stop... any clues? anyone went through this? We use condoms everytime we have sex so I know I cant be prego....

Wow. I am sad, and glad to see all these posts on here about the Mirena. I can NOT believe this product is still being pushed by doc's, and is still approved form of birth control. I didn't even realize that half of my side affects were probably due to the mirena. I gained so much weight and just thought it was because I stopped excersizing, and even when I was excersizing regularly and watching my food I couldn't lose A POUND! I had yeast infections in between EVERY period, which lasted atleast 10 days, and I only had about 5 days in between all my "periods." I had my IUD out of Friday (March 19th) and landed in ER on that Sunday with such heavy bleeding I was passing large (like golf balls) clots and soaking a pad within 5 minutes! Since then, I am still having to change super tampon every 15 minutes and even then the clots slide past the tampon. I am exhausted! I started an iron supplement yesterday and am HOPING I can get some energy back up soon. I didn't even bleed this heavy after having my 2 children. I, like pretty much all of you, can not seem to get any real answers out of any of the doctors. I feel like I am being blown off....I'm exhausted, can't function and feel disgusting. Oh, I guess I could tell you all that my "treatment" from the Er, was I was put on 7/7/7 birth control pills, had to take 2 every 4 hours from Sunday to Monday then take one a day for the rest of the pack. this was supposed to "stop" the bleeding...here I am 5 days later...still bleeding like a faucet. :'(

i had the Mirena put in almost 2 years ago and to help with my flow. I was anemic and having a hard time dealing with the long (10 days), heavy periods and the varicose veins that were accompanying my cycle. My doctor suggested Mirena and I did it. I spotted continuously for the first 6 months with a lighter monthly period and then it seemed to be good... I did notice some weight gain at first, but I chalked that up to age... then after about 18 months... i noticed my periods getting heavier again, my face braking out and I was soooooooo tired! I went to the doctor, still believing that it was not the Mirena. I gave it three more months and the symptoms got worse. I also noticed some peach fuzz on the side of my face that wasn't there before. That was the last straw. I had that thing removed on Friday! I asked if I would bleed and they said "NO"... well they obviously don't know that my body must have stock in Kotex!!!! because I am bleeding like I did with my miscarriage 8 years ago. I know I am not pregnant since my husband had a vasectomy after my fourth child 5 years ago. I feel like there must be a better answer to help my flow. I cannot be down and out for a couple of days every month!!!!

I just got my IUD (Mirena) taken out three days ago after having it in less than one month! I absolutely HATED this product and think that many women are not adequately informed of ALL side effects related to it. I've learned to research the meds my doctors suggest to me from now on. Not only did I have BLEEDING everyday (not "spotting") and LARGE blood clots, I also experienced the following: 1) severe headaches/migraines, 2) scalp sensitivity/hair loss, 3) breast tenderness, 4) depressed mood (and this is NOT like me AT ALL), and 5) energy loss/lethargy. Even now, my scalp is still sensitive, meaning that there are itchy and sore sensations that I feel at the SAME time. I can't even scratch my scalp because I believe that when I do I will be in pain from the soreness. We won't even talk about how my hair keeps falling out everytime I brush and comb it. I'm still bleeding very heavily, and I am not encouraged by hearing others say that their health care providers encouraged them that this is normal and to wait at least a month for relief. I am now taking the pill for contraception; at least I know what to expect with this. What a marriage killer!!! I can't even tell when would be a good time to have sex with my husband because the bleeding is so unpredictable. My doctor, who is a woman, even tried to make light of the situation by saying I was "one in a million". I told her I already know that, but I don't appreciate being that in relationship to Mirena's adverse reactions. She could tell I was pissed!!! Well, I know I might sound like a meanie (which I'm not), but I can't tell you how much frustration this product has caused me. Ladies, we can be more responsible for ourselves and our bodies. We can use other forms of contraception that will allow for less damage and possible risk to our bodies (especially our ovaries with this product--i.e. possible ovarian cysts). DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT: IT IS NOT NATURAL FOR US TO BLEED A RIVER FOR MONTHS AT A TIME. I REPEAT, " IT IS UNHEALTHY; DO NOT USE MIRENA."

Ladies! I feel so much better about my situation! I had my IUD removed on Friday, with very little spotting on Saturday. It's now Sunday, and the bleeding is much heavier (although a light pad is still all that's needed). I am mid-cycle, and very regular, so I know it's not my period. I'm glad to hear that this is normal, and just my body readjusting.

I posted a few days ago, and wanted to give a quick follow up. First of all, I have had a very positive Mirena experience, and I'm sorry to hear that many of you didn't. I had light spotting for the first two days after it was removed, it was then quite heavy (with a few clots) for 2-3 days, then a bit more spotting, no nothing. It seems that my body may just needed to 'clean out' and took care of it on its' own. I wish all of you the best; it's good to know what others are going through too, so you know you're not alone.

i got my mirena out about a month ago. just finishing my first period post removal (not counting the bleeding you get post removal). wow! i have never experienced anything like it. it started off quite normal but by the evening of the first day it was starting to get quite heavy. the next day i was soaking and overflowing a super tampon in an hour!!! i had the mirena in for 11 months. i'm putting it down to a build up cos i have never experienced such a heavy flow. i didn't have this happen after removal of my first one which i had in for about 5-6 months. from what i've read it sounds like i'm not alone??

I had my Mirena out on 4/29 after 8 months and spotted for 3 days a couple of days afterwards. Then this past Wednesday I started bleeding like a stuck pig in the middle of the night with no warning. Later that morning I called my GYN and told her I was changing a super plus tampon every 5 minutes at times and was having clots as large as a tampon. She said that lots of people bleed this heavily, but that it is not normal. She recommended that if I got consistently lightheaded to go to the ER. I am stubborn (and encourage others not to be) and didn't go until Thursday after I saw my GYN. I had lost at least 10 cups of blood in 36 hours and was orthostatic (meaning my blood pressure went wild when I moved from lying down to sitting to standing). At the ER I told them while I was sitting in a wheelchair that I felt like I was going to pass out. They drew blood which threw my body into some kind of shock and I was termporarily paralyzed for 20 minutes. Because of this I was admitted, but when I was discharged it was just with instructions to take iron and they put me on the pill. Luckily the bleeding has stopped, but now I am reading that it takes 5-7 days for red blood cells to start regenerating and that they regenerate at a rate that provides a person with a 1% hematocrit increase per week. So since my hematocrit went down to 24 (normal is 38 and anemic is <36) it will take me 12 weeks to fully recover! Currently if I go up one flight of stairs I have to lie down when I reach the top because it stresses out my heart so much.
I just wanted to add my story as I am amazed at how many women have experienced this. I did ask my doctor before removal if I would bleed a lot because I had read briefly somewhere that it might be a possibility and she said no. While I was in the hospital I consulted with a neurologist regarding my paralysis and he is the only person who actually told me I was "very sick". Why are the doctors not admitting that this is a problem?
Good luck to you all in getting answers and please post them if you get them.
