How to tell if breast bone is broken,&what to do about it?
The only confirmation can come thru an Xray. Symptoms will get worse and you can cause lung damage down the road. A professional can palpate the injury and make a reasonable diagnosis, but only an X-ray will tell you for sure.
How much pain are you in? If a lot, you need to get to the doctor or emergency room and have an xray done. They will be able to tell if it is a broken bone or even a fracture (which can be just as painful). As with a cracked rib, there is not much to do for the break. Rest, limited lifting if any, and periodic xrays to watch the healing process are necessary.
