My friend had total replacement of the descending thoracic aortia (from her heart down to her kidneys) due to an aneurysm near her heart. They also had to remove the number 9 rib to access it. She was told their was a possibility of paralysis due to it being so close to her spine. She had her surgery on July 21st and still has a severe burning pain in her back. She also sometimes has a hard time breathing. Is this normal? When could she expect this to improve? She is so discouraged and wishes she never had the surgery and just waited to die. She is only 55 years of age. Please help! Her doctor has been no help.
