I was taking Loestrin 24 and had chronic burning in the vulva and perianal areas for almost a year. I didn't even think about the fact that the birth control could be causing it. I went from doctor to doctor trying to find a treatment and nothing worked. They told me I had vulvodynia and that I would probably have this for the rest of my life. I went a little kooky (but who wouldn't?) and tried to live a natural lifestyle in hopes of curing it. Exercised, though even sitting caused pain and moving make it worse, ate better, and stopped all medication. I was only on Loestrin daily and the different creams I had been prescribed over the course of the year. Within a week the pain was gone! One year later I decided to go back on birth control but talked to my doctor about trying a different kind. I am now on Kariva and don't have any issues. Best of luck to everyone reading this.

After starting a new b.c. 2 months ago, Necon, a no estrogen b.c, I have now been experiencing sudden and severe and itching on my labia. It is to the point where I am unable to sleep. I have tried so many things to help relieve without any success. I went to my Gyno today and she ruled out a yeast infection and said it may be an allergic reaction to something. I haven't changed one thing in my daily activities. I told her I thought it could be my b.c. having a bad reaction with my body but she advised me to continue taking it because she disagreed. I stopped taking it 3 days ago when the itching began and I don't plan on taking it again. The doctor suggested a warm bath (nothing put in it). And then to buy some cortisone cream from the store and apply to the outer itching area. I did just that. After the bath, it made me feel even more itchy so I wasn't happy about that. But about an hit after I applied the cream i did notice a decrease in itching and now almost 2 hours I haven't noticed it. I have been laying down so I get a little itch randomly when I stand but so at I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this cream. You may give it a try. I have applied it twice. And just a thin layer. She also told me once applied, sleep without panties and when hanging at home go without panties. I'm just happy I will actually be able to sleep tonight. Good luck!

I'm on orthotricyclin and I'm having this same problem. Should I stop takin my pills and try some other form if birth control?

hey i hear that birth control can change the PH on your vullva; making it more sensitive. Therefore birthcontrol can make it itchy down there. i actually have the same problem. maybe try switching birth control pills

I am curious as to what week this was happening to you.
I've been on orthotrycyclen also and got the same itching/burning problem, but I noticed it the third week of the month (consequently, the one with the highest dose of progesterone), then I was on loestrin fe 1.5/30 and didn't notice it until the second pack.
Now I am on yasmin, and it's been the worst ever! My entire opening was swollen and itching after intercourse...
Yasmin has the highest dose of a progesterone out of all of them. I think we all might be sensitive to progesterone, but I haven't found any research yet that states anything about the itching.

Has anyone been experiencing this at the end of their sugar pill week? I've experienced dryness and itchyness starting the exact day I'm supposed to start a new pack. I'm curious if it's possibly happening because of the lack if estrogen in my body while taking the placebo. I'm thinking the drop in estrogen kinda mimics the atrophy that happens during menopause due to lower estrogen levels.... Has anyone else been experiencing something similar around that same time of their cycle?

i think the problem is estrogen. I've been on two different pills in the last two years both really low dose and one had terrible burning the other made my mood psycho. By the sound of some of these posts its estrogen.

OMG I've been feeling this same thing. It was happening when I first started taking it then after about 2 months, it stopped. But now I decided to stop taking the pill and have been off of it for a week. This past week has been INSANE! Itching like crazy. I've been inserting PH balancing gel every day and it works for about 24 hours then comes back. Going to visit the gyno soon! Let me know if you figured out how to stop the itching!!

I've been having itching near the opening of my vagina as well as a discharge and uti symptoms that are coming and going. Been to the doctor twice. The first time she thought it was a yeast infection so she prescribed me two diflucan pills and it made it worse! Went back a week later and all my lab results had come back normal so she thought I was allergic to my new detergent I was using to wash my clothes. I'm still having symptoms a week later.. Not as bad because she prescribed me a steroid and anti fungal cream but I honestly think it's my new birth control (Minastrin) I've been on for 3 months now. So glad to see I'm not the only one!!

Wow, can't believe I found this! I had the same problem after I changed to a generic version of LoOgestril. I had the worst itching/burning for over a year and nothing helped except a steroid cream which only provided minor relief. I went through an emotional roller coaster being told I had herpes (I took 3 tests, all negative), if not it must be a yeast infection (treated 2 times), ok let's try treating BV (treated 3 times). After getting a 3rd opinion I was given a diagnosis of dermatitis but my dr could never tell me what the cause was only could prescribe a steroid cream and suggest I change all my personal products to sensitive and hand wash my panties in the sink... A month ago I had a Mirena IUD inserted, stopped taking the pills, and the problem is miraculously gone! Since I was still curious as to what the root cause was I searched for BC allergies on a whim and found this thread. Im no longer wondering what caused my issues, pretty sure this is it.

I'm fourteen, and I've never even had ANYTHING up the before, not even tampons. My gyno put me on loestine because I was having hormone problems with pms cramps. But after about 2 months of taking it, it's staring to burn like hell during the day. I've been tested for yeast infection and uti, both were fine. I'm waiting for the results to come in for a vaginal bacterial infection test, but I doubt anything will show up. One of my mothers friends suggested that I try the off brand of loestrine, which we plan to do soon. Ugh pray for me this is so annoying.:(:0:(
