I had a cortisone shot in each knee for first time. Have a splitting headache and like many people said, I amnot prone to headaches. Hope it ends soon.
very informative post. lot of detail and corresponded to my situation quite a lot. Was interested in the comment about diminishing benefits of multiple shots.
I also had a headache .I have had 2 injection, one in each knee at different times and each time got a severe headache about 1 1/2 hr after ist one and 4 hrs after 2nd one they last 3 days..... Then my knee and I feel better.. Dr says he has no idea why!!!!! also has facial flushing for about 2 days... Looks good in the winter.. like I've been to the beach does ANYONE have any answers??? Thanks
the exact same thing happened to me as well. I got a cortisone shot in my left knee and my head started to ache by last night. Maybe they are not related, but it certainly seems that they are.
Had a shot in my heel spur at foot doctor on monday, tuesday went to ortho and had one in each knee.
Later that night and esp the next morning, My face was terribly flushed which I knew could be a side affect. Problem is I have had the same headache everyone has described , worse headache ever. I get migraines and this one is no joke, no meds will help it subside. I even tried my migraine meds thinking it would help! Nope. Nausea yucky feeling cannot go to sleep, hot showers cold rags, ice nothing will help this is day 4 when will this go away? I have had plenty of shots before in my knees. NEVER has this happened. Almost makes you wonder if there are different ingredients all of a sudden in them? Praying for relief soon, hoping you all get it as well. :)
I've been getting cortisone shots for years, first for heel spurs then for bad knees. I have found that cortisone shots do cause headache and flushing. One time after having a shot in both knees I was flushed badly so I called the orthopedic nurse and she called it the cortisone flush, said it was common. They didn't tell me before any shots that they can cause headache (actually doctor or nurse never informed me of any side affects) but I know for sure that they do. If I get just one shot in the knee then I get a minor short lived headache and no flushing but with 2 shots (yesterday was the second time I had double shots) I had a headache that lasted all afternoon, all night and still some today and my face was burning like fire last night (and still my face is red and flushed and hot today)and I couldn't go t sleep untill 2:00 AM - and that was after taking 2 Tylenol PM to knock me out and get rid of the headache. The medications (Advil earlier) did not touch the headache. From what I've read on-line the cortisone can cause your blood pressure to go up, thus the headache. I could tell my blood pressure was up becasuse my heart was pounding harder and I could feel the pressure in my head. It is definitely a different feeling from a normal headache and I never flush so I know it was the cortisone.
From now on I will get only one shot at a time so that I will have minimal side affects. I guess you just have to weigh the side affects with the benefits. The joint may be painful for a couple of days after the shot but usually (in my experience anyway) helps the joint inflamation and pain and is a plus in the long run.
How long will we have the headaches? I mean they will go away right?
I also had a cortisone shot in my knee a few days ago, and I am having this horrible headache off and on each day.
thanks for posting. I had a cortisone shot in my knee yesterday late afternoon and woke with a bad headache this AM, which I still have. How long did yours last?
I've had headache for two days, since knee injection. Have had numerous injections all over my body prior to this and never had headache! Calling Dr!
