I had a mirena inserted on March 22, 2010, in April i bled so badly that I immediately went back into the doctor, she said it was not caused by the mirena but that sometimes women have a rogue bad bleeding month. She put me on birth control pills for 4 weeks to stop the bleeding, by the way, she had done an ultrasound when i was bleeding so badly and saw that the mirena was still in the correct place. I had a light period in May and on Friday, June 11, i had a tonsillectomy and another emergency surgery on Sunday June 13th, 2010 for bleeding from the tonsillectomy. After my recent surgeries, i realized i hadnt had a period in june, but really didnt think anything of it as i heard the mirena can cause you to not have periods. No pregnancy symptoms but was worried because of surgery, anesthesia, pain meds, etc so i took 3 home pregnancy tests, all positive. I went to the doctor yesterday (June 21, 2010) she couldnt see the strings so she did an ultrasound and could not see the Mirena IUD anywhere!! She said it mustve came out and i didnt know which seems unbelievable that you could not notice, but i guess it happens sometimes. What she did see on the ultrasound when she couldnt find the mirena was an amniotic sac that says im 4 weeks and 4 days pregnant yesterday!!! By the way, im 38 years old and he is 42 and I have a 17 year old son!! Not really what we wanted right now, hence the whole mirena placement, but it is what it is, now we just hope that the surgeries and medications dont cause a miscarriage. Now we are just hoping for healthy pregnancy and baby.

Well the mirena can fall out i know this from experience but i am a rear case normally if falls out if it will with in the first year. My fell out after the year make and the shortest way i know to say this is that i basically delivered it. lol i go cramping that came off and on like contractions i dont know why but i guess my body decided it was time for it to go. But as to your husband getting poked a lot of the men can feel the strings. so if that is the issue i would just ask your doctor to fix it. i hoped this helped.

I am 26, and had my Mirena inserted in March 2010. Everything seemed fine in the beginning, although my sex drive was depleted soon after and cramping was an issue (I've always had pretty intense cramps but these were more in my back). I've gained about 5 pounds total, but having been eating the best lately...so I can't contribute the weight gain to the Mirena.

3 weeks later (April 18th, 2010) I began bleeding and never stopped. My doctor eventually realized 5 months of heavy/light/heavy bleeding probably couldn't be good for me, so they put me on one month of LoEstra (sp?) and ordered bloodwork taken for hormonal testing. My results came back fine, but by then I just wanted to get this out.

Last night the bleeding was out of control. I began having lower back pain (but nothing I haven't dealt with in the past months) and super tampons just weren't doing the trick.

I used the restroom and felt enormous pressure. The Mirena fell out on it's own!! o.O I called the doctor and she was amazed. She says I'm the 2nd person in her practice that this has ever happened to. My best friend's fell out on it's own too, and her doc says he had never heard of that happening. Obviously it happens!!

I would NOT recommend the Mirena to anyone!! I bled from April-September only to have the thing fall out. I've been moody, lazy, and uncomfortable for months. Please stay on the pill like I should have!!

I never post on sites, but this I truly identify with as I'm TOTALLY shocked because mine came out ON IT'S OWN yesterday!! I thought once it was placed by the dr. it wouldn't come out unless removed by my dr. Before getting it, I did research on Mirena, asked people how they liked it and thought I was making the best decision possible to prevent pregnancy. For the past two months, I've had consistent bleeding or spotting no days without anything. My Mirena was placed in January '10 and it was okay at first, only within the last two- three months have things started to take a different turn. My husband too could feel the Mirena poking him, but we thought it was just part of it and nothing wrong. It came out in a big clot and I was shocked!! I immediately called the doctor's office and they prescribed a low dose bc pill that I have to take for seven days (3 pills for 3 days, 2 pills for 3 days, and 2 pills for 1 days) yeah talk about work!!! Not sure what direction to take cause I don't want to have another baby, get a tubal, or get another Mirena. Good luck to everyone in deciding, just know it wasn't that great for me. And yes I too crave sweets, but thought it was just me being me.

I thought it was no big deal, until suddenly my Meraina came out!! The little triganle thing is sitting on my dest next to me and I don't know what to do, it came out so suddenly. I was taking out a tampon, and suddenly there it was! has anyone else experienced this?!?

I'm almost 100& its fallen out, but its friday and my doctor isnt in till monday. Can i pull it out myself? Or is it safe to leave floating around inside me for 2 days (if i can even get in to see her right away). I'm nervous cause im not sure how long its been out of my uterus, and its possible im pregnant. Any advice?

I know Im a little late on this topic hahaha but my IUD did fall out ( mine wasn't the mirena tho) I had it for just over 2 years and my husband felt it during intercourse, I thought it was just the string bc we had the same problem when I first had it put in, and the doc just tucked the strings away
2 days later I go to the bathroom and TA-DA!!! There it was. I called my doctor and told her what happened and went in to see her the same day. I got a pregnancy test done and 2 lines showed just one was a little faint so we followed with a blood test and sure enough I am pregnant LOL (which we are really excited about bc we were getting the IUD removed the following month to try for a sec)
If you have a feeling that something could be wrong just check with your doc:)
Hope this helped even a little

I had the mirena put in by a small clinic that offers birth control services, I had a miscarriage about 7 months ago I was on the pill then and still became pregnant, I knew I did not want to conceive any more children at this point in my life so I opted for the Mirena, I shelled out the money to have it inserted and things seemed fine, I continued having periods like clockwork which I thought was odd considering the mirena supposedly slows and stops them, I didnt gain weight I had some acne but always have. Guess what, I found out last week that I am not expecting and about 7 weeks pregnant. The Mirena can most definitely fall out. Buyer be ware!

i had my mirena in for 10 mos and it fell out......i have 5 children and i dont need anymore.....i am so glad that im not the only one that this has happened to......i had really bad cramps almost contraction like and i went to the bathroom, and had a few more "contractions" and then there it was is the potty.....i was all excited about this form of bc,because i have a hard time remebering to take pills, and ive had bad experiences with other forms of birthcontrol....i def will not use mirena again and i will let everyone know what can happenif they do get it.....my doc sad its rare for it to fall out after 1 month, but i see it happens more than ayone wants to admitwhit
