I am day two of my cold sore attack on my lip. My son drank from my straw but as soon as I seen him do that I quickly washed his mouth with water. Even though I was sipping from the side of my mouth without the straw touching my sore will he get this infection on his mouth too? I hope he doesn't develop this because they are painful and ugly.
I can't say that there isn't a chance that the virus that causes cold sores couldn't pass on to your child, so you will have to monitor for any changes - if he is healthy enough there is a good chance that even if he is infected he will not have break-outs (not all people do, even though they carry the virus and can pass it on). But, usually, this virus needs skin to skin contact to be transferred - most common way is by kissing. How did you manage before this? It doesn't have to mean much, but if you had breakouts before and nothing happened to him, maybe he will pull through this time, too.
