Hi all. I’m 21 and I’ve had this swollen glands problem for more than 15 months now. The first time I noticed this, I was not to scared because I know that swollen glands may be a result of a minor to moderate infection. But, swelling did not disappear – only was increasing… So, my glands remained swollen all this time, especially those in neck and armpits region. So, now ‘m freaking out because I know that minor or moderate infection is surely not the cause. Am I right and could this mean that I have very serious problems?? Please reply asap!!

From what you’ve wrote, I can tell you that unfortunately I have to tell you some bad news. It is true that swelling is associated with infections – lymph nodes swell while your body is fighting the infection. But, if glands are swollen for a very long period of time during which you generally were healthy and had no infections, it usually means one very bad thing – cancer. I usually do not like to jump to conclusion, but that is surely one possibility. Therefore, I think that it is time for you to see your doc and sort that out.
