Clear liquid from my head scabs

Hello everyone,

I’ve had a car crash a month ago and thank god we all came out of it alive, but I was sitting at the back seat and my head took some pretty heavy beating. I’ve even had a small concussion. But my main problem now is that clear liquid is oozing from my head scabs and I have little control over it. The wound is covered with hair because it wasn't too dangerous to need stitches. However, now every morning I wake up I see a stain on my pillowcase – sorry if it grosses you out –that looks like yellow and blood mixture.

When I checked the wound site with my hand, some clear see-through liquid was there and there were no traces of blood or anything like puss. What is going on? Is my wound healing properly or should I try to get it checked out by a doctor?

Hi dan,

glad everyone was OK after the crash! The white or clear liquid you'll see oozing from the scabs is basically there to hold the white blood cells which keep the wound heal. As long as it's clear or see-through, there should be no major problems in the wound healing itself. It's the unfortunate position of the wound that makes the scab probably to go off and then the fluid leeks.

What you need to watch out for are any changes in the way this liquid looks. If it starts getting cloudy or puss-like, and the wound becomes sensitive to pain that might mean an infection has started to develop. Ask your pharmacist if you can use Neosporin or something similar to help prevent the infection.  Even better, if you could get a regular physician to examine it, if it’s in the place where you can’t see because of the hair.
