This sensation or episode has happen to me quite often as a child. I was sexually abused as a child and had a hard childhood. When this happens to me, it is a scary feeling, my heart starts beating very fast and it is such a confusing feeling. I absolutely hate this feeling. It must be some type of panic attack. Stress seems to trigger it. Just last night while talking to my mother on the phone, she was bringing up a lot the things of the awful past, the way life was for us then. It started happening....my fingers of the hand that was holding the phone, suddenly felt like they were really thin, like drinking straws and the phone felt really heavy and thick. I haven't had this happen in decades. I am 51 years old now. But, the conversation that we were having took me back to the awful childhood and triggered this attack. I thought....I am going to google this feeling and see if I can find something on this online. Because it is so hard to explain to someone. I am so happy after all my life, thinking that this only happened to me. Now I know that I am not alone.

I dont know how to explain the thin feeling though - the best i can do is i feel thin but with cotton around my fingers. I also experience the feeling where everything feels fast and i have googled this and found a lot of people experience this. It is often referred to as "fast feeling".
I really want to know the causes of these strange feelings, so if anyone figures it out, let me know please.

But a little bit schocked as well, haha. The feeling you're describing is something I am feeling right now. Just as I was about to fall asleep, hands sort of starts to grow, my tounge feels weird, and when I open my eyes it's like my hands just continue growing, and I feel everything around me. But at the same time, it's like I'm in a vacuum. I am trying to shake it off, but is not working. Sometimes I actually have to walk it off. But it's like the whole thing is going on for about 10-15 minutes. Maybe a few times a year.
Last time this happened, I was actually in a taxi, on my way to work. Lasted for about 10 minutes. It can actually happen to me anywhere, at anytime. Not only when I sleep or trying to. I am so interested in what this could be... Do anyone know?
I had this since I was a kid. Now I am 23 and still can't figure this out.

I am 52 and in the United States. I had this feeling of having huge hands, but my fingertips were very sensitive when I would put them together on the same hand. My teeth also felt very thick. No childhood abuse here. It always happened just after I went to bed and quite often before I reached puberty. It just happened again yesterday as I was waking up. I always thought it was just me, but my wife suggested I Google it to find answers and I was happy to see I wasn't alone. Unfortunately, no answers though.

The reason for the thick feeling in your finger tips (hands) is because your brain perceives your bodypart bigger or smaller according to how well it controls thag bodypart. It's called the cortical humunculus. Google some pictures amd you'll see what I mean. Hope this helpt. Sorry for necro bump.

So glad to know that I am not alone!!
Mine started in elementary school after SEXUAL ABUSE and EXPLOITATION (child porn) and I often wondered if it was ptsd. I also have had Lymes disease for most of my life.
Celebrate Recovery has helped enormously to deal with my painful past and now my nerve symptoms only come when I am sick.
Blessings!!

I also had this when I was a child and struggled to get past this. I am now 36 and I know what it is and what's it all about. It's nothing mystic or from another world.
It happens to people who have migraines, who get sick, who are under stress, PTSD, depressed or just plain sleep deprived. It's your mind playing tricks on you because it's all juiced up and chemically unbalanced.
Basically I think it's you being much more alert and aware than needed and having difficulty shutting down to sleep. You enter something of a "in between two worlds" area where you experience a lot of different stuff based on your history, sex, background and culture.
It's basically summed up in what can be called : Hypnagogia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnagogia
Also, you can look up macrosomatognosia and microsomatognosia
