I am so glad I found this. I have been smelling it too for a few months now. In fact right now. It makes me nuts and keeps me up at night. I wonder if this is a medical condition.

I have been having this problem for almost 2 years. It first started out with it happening just every so often. I thought that maybe someone was using their chimney in the neighborhood, but it continued into summer. I also had problems with another awful smell coming from my nose that other people could smell coming from my nose. It usually occurred when I bent over. Now that has gone away and the smoke smell is an almost constant thing now. I grew up in a house where my mother, father, and brother smoked. I tried twice when I was a teenager to smoke both times for less than a week at a time but I didn't see anything in it. I definately know what it feels like to have smoke go through the nose like a smoker and this is what it smells like. I know that my landlord put in the lease that there is mold in the house that I am renting. The smoke smell started after I moved here. I wonder if it might have something to do with that? I smell it when I go other places, too, but the mold could be effecting my nose and throat.

I quit smoking only 3 months ago and for the past 3 weeks I can smell cigarette smoke on me. I keep asking my husband "can you smell it? " he says no. Other ppl have said no but I can and it is driving me crazy to the point where I want to just pick up a cigarette and get it over with. I also take cholestoral meds and am type 2 diabetic so take 2 meds for this also. I don't know what the answer is, but am so relieved I am not alone with this anymore.

I've been smelling smoke for years knowing that there is no one around smoking.   It comes and goes and I'm experiencing a spell of it right now.  I don't smoke and work in a building that no one smokes in.  Glad to know that I'm not alone with this.

My sister in law has had this come and go for probably the past year....sometimes she says it gets so bad she feels like she can't breathe, she said it even wakes her up from sleep it gets so bad sometimes.  She had an MRI due to the fact that brain tumors actually have this side effect....MRI clear.  She went back to the neurologist and they think she could be having seizures.  They told her next time she smells it to come right to the office or call as there is some test they want to do when she has the symptom.  This is not to scare anyone but to let you know you are not alone but it is a good think to get checked by a doctor.....many reasons for olfactory responses like this.  Brain tumors, seizures, increased seratonin levels, sinus irregularities......please don't ignore and think it's nothing, please get checked.

Thanks for your post Melanie, I've been checked for Seizures, nothing showed up on the tests and am currently being treated for acute sinusitis with antibiotics and am scheduled for a CT scan tomorrow. Hopefully it will shed some light on the cause. I'll post again after I know more.

Update: After completing the full three week course of antibiotics perscribed by my ENT I am no longer smelling smoke! :-) Apparently the sinus infection I was treated for in the fall was not cured and has lingered all this time. MY CT showed that my sinus cavities are clear and air fulled which is what he wanted to see.

I'm understand how you are feeling! I suggest you make an appointment to see a good ENT and let him/her evaluate your symptoms. I smelt smoke for about 9 months and it turned out I had an acute sinus infection. Once I finished the course of antibiotics prescribed, the smoke went away! What a relief!!

Hi John, I suggest you see an ENT like I posted just a minute ago. I'm so relieved not to be smelling/tasting smoke like I was.
