We all need to go on MYSTERY DIAGNOSIS because so many have this. I go through it 2-3 times a year. Have allergies, asthma and gerd and did have sinus surgery and ear tube surgery in 2007 with a fix to my deviated septum too. I can't smell or taste half the year either, I think my doc messed me up. That cig smell thing is a trip and no one knows why. Weird.

I thought I was alone in this as well! I have asked my family around me for years if they smell it and they always say no. Really thought I was loosening it!!! And I just started with the burning eyes. It's crazy! So anyone have any answers?

I know this is going to be hard to believe but I had the same problem myself until I realized that my problem was linked to the scented plugins in my apartment.(specifically the wallflower type)after thorough investigation my findings let me to the conclusion that the plugin oil produces some sort of toxin that seeps into everything.

YES YES I FOUND TWO CURES. Okay so me and my online friend met on a health blog, and we both had this problem for YEARS, smelling smoke when no one else have, so we decided to stay intact in case one of us had a cure. She cured hers first, she had a nasal polyps + gluten sensitivity. Well your probably wondering why gluten sensitivity might cause this, LOOK IT UP. People have misdiagnosed gluten sensitivity without celiac disease. People with celiac or gluten sensitivity have been known to have hallucinations, smell disorders, increased risk of cancer and tumors, anxiety, depression, ocd etc. She cut out gluten and cured her sinus disorders. My cure came 4 months later, PEOPLE ALLERGIC TO PENICILLIN AND MOLD READ THIS!!:
My problem wasn't nasal polyps or food allergies, my problem WAS IN MY HOUSE. I discovered inside my closets and alongside behind my bed there was GREEN MOLD and BLACK MOLD. Read the effects of mold exposure! Hallucinations, cancer, lung+sinus+throat disorders, neurological disorders, and many more! CLEAN YOUR HOUSE, CHECK FOR MOLD, It might save you thousands of $$$ and doctor visits! A week after cleaning mold from my house the weird smoke smells that no one else smelt around me disappeared! Mold spores are invisible, you wouldn't even know your breathing them in, check for those silent killers!

I've been suffering from the smoke smell in my nose for close to 2 years now. It would come and go, some episodes would last weeks while others just a few days. I'd smell it while sitting on the bench (I play ice hockey), I'd smell it while driving, etc....Anyway, I started taking Alegra (allergy med) daily and the smell has completely disappeared! I just happened to use Alegra so I don't know if othe allergy meds will work or not. Hope this helps someone.

Same started happening to me in the last couple of weeks. Nobody smokes and nobody smells it...but I think I've figured out that it happens to me when I'm in front of a fan or A/C where the draft of the fan or A/C is going up my nose. I have no clue why this suddenly is a problem, but I'm going to relax about it and hope it dissipates.

I have the exact same issue. Started at work like a year ago. Smells like someone outside is smoking and it's getting sucked into the AC and blowing into my office. It's so bad at times my eyes water. I do sneeze a lot at work as well. No one at work ever smells it. I now smell it at home and no one smokes here. I quit smoking 4 years ago. It comes and goes, but it's driving me nuts. I'm 50 and have no known health problems.

Phantosmia(An olfactory hallucination) is what it's called, and I have it as well.Mine comes and goes.It usually last about a week to 2 weeks and it comes on me every 2 to 3 months. My neurologists said it was a migraine.I have had all the test I could have and I don't have a tumor, nor do I have a any serious disorders of the brain,Thank God!Available treatments that help include nasal saline drops, antidepressants, antiseizure medications, and sedatives.Good Luck Everybody and God Bless!

I smell it too. It comes and goes, I get the burning of eyes and a taste in my mouth. I don't smoke, I did or tried when I was younger, I am always around smokers but usually outside. I have been smelling it none stop the last few days that I am feeling sick. My ear has been popping too, like when you get water in it but I don't think I have water in it. I need to go see my doctor. I am at work right now night shift, have not been around smokers for a night or two and I am smelling it. Drinking coffee does not help...

Hi, I'm with the rest of you. I keep smelling cigarette smoke, when nobody is smoking. This I smell in my home, and nobody smokes at my house. It's been going on for months off and on now. I keep thinking I'm losing it, there has to be an explanation for it but I haven seen anything posted anywhere. It's a bit anoying not knowing why it's happening. I don't have any known health issues. Hoping someone can tell all of us something that would cause this.
