So pleased I typed this in as I am so sick of it at night I smell what seems like cigarette smoke but I live alone in a bungalow and no one smokes. It catches the back of my throat at night I was worried there was something wrong I do take strong pain meds and other pills but have been on most of them for a number of years and this has started in the last year. Wish I knew what was causing it.

Those who mention their backs, back pain, neck pain, back/neck medications...
Be aware that issues with the cervical (neck area) spine -- like stenosis -- may be affecting the trigeminal nerve that runs through it, and the trigeminal nerve deals directly with the sense of smell. If you smell cigarette smoke (or other similar negative odors), tell your back doctor about it!

I don't smoke cigarettes because i can't stand the smell yet it seams like am constantly smelling smoke every where in my room my car at a friends the store at work and no one is smoking near me. It's like if someone was smoking near you and the smoke it coming towards my face sometimes i have a natural reaction and try to blow the smoke away from me using my hands or turn to look and say something but no one is there. And its's so strong at times it like walking through a casino where smoking is allowed and you can't escape it or your sitting at a slot machine playing and the person next to you leaves the cigarret in the ashtray and the smoke it lingering in your face. I used to always think it was the car next to me or someone smoking outside of my home or next door at and its coming through the vents but i started to check and never found anyone smoking. The smell is getting to me has anyone found a solution?

Glad to know I'm NOT the only one this is happening to. I have NEVER smoked a single cigarette in my 61 trips around the sun! I did, however, grow up around chain smokers (Kentucky!). And I live in a home & city (Los Angeles) where I rarely encounter a smoker. Last few months, on occasion I just get the strong sensation (nasal/olfactory) that I am very near cigarette smoke! Must be something in our memories/brain? Just very strange. Not that concerned/worried. Just weird. I'm currently experiencing it as I'm typing this! Is is a dead relative who smoked coming to visit us??? :)
