The campaign in this country about  smoking may involve more techniques than we know.

I have been going through the exact same thing. I have never smoked and don't take any kind of medication. I know if I go to the doctor, she will say I am imagining it. . I figure there is something chemically going on in my body. It happened to me before and disappeared for a few years, Well, at least I'm not alone

I am in the same situation, I started smelling this 2 month ago and it went away for 4 weeks but since 5 days ago I am experiencing the same. I noticed that when I got home and seat to relax in front of the comp or tv I can feel it very strong but no on my work, I am wonder if it is some kind of allergic reaction connived with something at home, like mold, dust, who knows.

Thanks!

Albert.

I am a non-smoker that smells cigarette smoke all the time.  Mine is triggered by walking through a smoky casino or bar.  I will be doomed for several days after.  Nothing helps it go away and I think my husband thinks I'm nuts!  All I have to do is walk through the smoke and it's in my sinuses for days even a week or two.

I'm really getting annoyed!  Help!

I  am glad I came here searching through google. I quit smoking 7+ years ago and put on lots of fat. These days I am losing it after seven years, so I thought may be it;'s getting released from that time. Or it could be another thing like a serius thing but I am having not too many symptoms other than shortness of breath sometimes. Happy to see it's a fairly commmon problem.

I have this too.  I thought I was just sensitive to someone walking by with a cigarette but I just read that it could be brain tumor and other scary diseases.  Now I'm scared.

I too have this, i think it might be a build up of toxicity levels in the body?

Anyway, I may be way wrong but I'm going to try a water detox by drinking distilled water and see if this helps.

I will let you guys know the outcome soon as the distiller comes :)

It's funny, I get smoke blown in my face and no one smokes in my house. This has been going on since we moved in this house. It only happens to me. Only at home when I am in bed, siting in a perticular chair, or at the kichen sink.

The condition is known as Phantosmia. Read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantosmia and here:

I posted the 2nd location as the Mayo Clinic is a facility with a high reputation. The basic issue is that, according to the experts, you should at the minimum undergo an MRI, CT and EEG to rule out nasty conditions such as a brain tumor, Parkinson's, epilepsy, schizophrenia and neuroblastoma (cancer) to name a few. There are a few serious reasons to be concerned and the need to rule out possible conditions or diseases at earliest opportunity. Sometimes, nothing is discovered, and the smells may go away entirely or they may change to other odors, pleasant and unpleasant.

Please help!!

Has anyone been to the doctor regarding their symptoms and had any kind of diagnosis? I have been suffering from this for almost 2 years. It is starting to become unbearable and I am considering going to my doctor to get it checked out. I did mention it to a doctor in a walk in clinic once and he looked at me like I was crazy. I wonder what we all have in common that might be causing this? I take no medication of any kind so for me its not any drugs that causes this. I am overweight by ~40lbs, white female, middle aged. I dont have an overly stressful job....not sure if stress causes this. I firmly believe that most illnesses/symptoms are caused by what we put into our bodies. I do drink excessive amounts of aspartame...about 1-1.5 litres of diet pepsi a day. Does anyone else consume large quantities of aspartame? I have been smelling smoke constantly for the past few weeks and periodically over the last year and a half. The thought of living with this forever is depressing. There has to be a scientific explanation for this....hopefully sooner than later :(

If anyone has any diagnosis or treatments regarding this please share!!! Thanks

This seems to be a common problem. Ive had it for the past few years its like a nicotine type smoke smell that constantly lingers and sometimes rarely other odours, I have tried to look for answers but I am pretty sure its down to having a extremely sensitive sense of smell or something to do with the brain or smell sensors themselves. Not sure what brought mine on but it is annoying and I dose make me fell uneasy but its not unpleasant. I think its just one of those things and judging by what everyone else is saying here its quite common. I think spending time with smokers or burning or even making toast doest help the situation either.

Yeah, I smell smoke in my house.. I have NEVER smoked and no one has ever smoked in my house.... I am on Wellbutrin, so that could be the reason? My serotonin level affecting my sense of smell?

OK I was just smelling smoke and decided to see if anyone else has this problem and I'm shocked to see how many people do. I have never smoked in my life, I live in a moke free environment but will get a destinct smell of cigarette smoke. I did come from parents that were chain smokers, but I haven't lived with them for 32 years. I would love to know what this is from if anyone ever finds out.

Hi no I don't drink anything or eat anything with aspartame so that probably isn't the link, did you have parents that smoked?
