I was beginning to think I was going nuts, I too have been having this problem with smelling cigarette smoke. A couple of months ago I had a long running sinusand cold infection and noticed when I was finally able to breath some through my nose, I had lost my sense of smell but still have some taste capabilities. What I'm noticing now is this constant smell of like cigarette smoke when no one around me is smoking. I think what I'll try next to get over this is by using a Vicks personal inhaler several times. Fingers crossed, I am sick of the cigarette smell it's obnoxious!

I am so glad that I am not alone, I am 49yrs old and recently have quit smoking however, every now and again I get the very strong smell of stale smoke, I am wondering if our bodies, like curtains, and furniture that retain the rancid smell does the same thing, since I have been smoking for so many years, inhaling and of course not ALL of the smoke comes back out, so is this my body getting rid of the toxin and that is why I smell it like it is right under my nose.....I am going to the doctor Friday and will find out what he has to say about it

I started to noticed tha smell of cigarette smoke at night. I thought it might be coming from my neighbors house, but when I opened the window and breathed in air, it was fresh and clean. I don't smoke and no one in my house smokes. I wnet to the ENT today and she wants me to have a brain MRI. She did all the other etsts to rulle out why I have this phantom smell.  It's very unnerving.

This smell must be due to some type of medication. It seems I started noticing it when my Wellbutrin got increased???? I also started taking cholesterol meds. This smell really bothers me and my eyes have been watering. I'm not around any cigarette smoke and don't know where this scent is from. Keep me posted if you figure it out - thanks

I'm a non smoker and have never smoke. For the past month I have been smelling the same thing, eveywhere I go, and I also feel someone is blowing smoke in my face. It has me worried that something is wrong, my mother told me it may be something in my blood stream and know your're not losing your mind. So there's smeone else that's experiencing the same as you.

I just started having this problem. cigarette smell startes out faint until it gets so strong it feels like my eyes burn' my throat feels raw, my breathing becomes heavy or feel forced. Slight nausea feeling headache usually starts as well, I can almost feel as though my head is swelling with each breath that I take. Don't know what is causing this since I nor any one in my household smokes as I can't stand the smell of it for the following reasons listed above. Does any one know what is triggering these episodes?

Hi - this is exactly what is happening with me. Does anyone have any advice as to what causes it? My Dr didnt seem too concerned - going back on Monday. Any advice on remedies / how to stop it would be greatly appreciated.

I was smelling like a hilex or bleach smell and it went away. My husband had the same thing when his anxiety was bothering him and now it is gone. The past two weeks I have been smelling a strong smoke smell also and my food has no taste and my anxiety has been bad again so I wonder if it is caused by nerves. I also have a ringing in one ear when my anxiety is up and when calm it goes away. John Sarno wrote a book about TMS and he says it can cause ear ringing, aches and pains, etc. It can affect your nerves and muscles with pain, etc. It is a psychological thing and benign but can be very painful, etc. I know when my back would be so painful then my head was feeling clear and I wasn't nervous and vise-versa. When my anxiety was bad my back would't hurt. I was wondering if this was part of the same thing. All of this started for me when I had high anxiety as smelling the cigarettes, then the bleach smell and now the strong smoke odor. Do you have problems with anxiety?

I am so grateful that you all posted.  I thought I was going nuts . I was meeting someone at a Starbucks and I kept saying, "Why is someone smoking in here?"  I looked around and no one was smoking, but my lungs were filling up with smoke.  That stopped and just now I felt like i smelled smoke in my nose and my lungs feel full of smoke again.  Do we have answers as to why this occurs?  Is it an indication of a problem

Me too. At first I thought the smell was coming from the neighbour's place but then it was in my car and in my office, and it then dawned on me that it was coming from me. It came after I started taking herbs to detoxify my liver. I quit smoking 15 years ago. My internet research indicates it is from the cigarette toxins stored in your liver, which can stay there for a long time.

I think it is one of 3 things. 1. my coffee in my system because they roast or burn the coffee grounds. 2. the smell of the lint from the 8 vents outside my window from clothes dryer that i am allergic to. 3. two people under my apt smokes and it is acturally in my ac system
