Thank you for your reply! Yes the mucus is jelly like and really thick! Strange sometimes they are perfect round balls and other times not so much. All I know is it just really gets on my nerves! I'm sure my husband don't care much about it either but he never says anything. :-(

interesting I am in the same boat as you, except I smoke cigs, always have, yet the balls are perfectly clear. they almost remind me of some kind of egg. you can imagine these balls developing into some kind of worm etc. but yet to see any of that occurring. they have a thick membrane that holds them together, making them squishy, they don't fall apart when moderate pressure is applied, they however pop when too much pressure is applied.
these are either formed with a membrane or the membrane is the product of rolling and drying out. however the majority of the ball is of the same consistency.

I have the same thing happening and I have discovered that they are caused by my toothpaste. I have used Crest and/or Colgate for years but switched to Tom's of Maine just for a change. I started to notice that I wasn't coughing up the round or rice shaped mucous any more. Surprised, I went back to my old toothpaste and within a couple of days they started to re-appear. You could give it a try too...see what happens.

Another thing which I've always wondered about is. Is it possible for this type of buildup is caused by excessive dust in your home? That's the other thing which changed. . . I cleaned up my home thoroughly and changed the filters and my cough seems to have cleared up too.

ght if you breathe In and out with your hand placed on your chest.. most of you will feel the mucus stored in your lungs and on occassions you will hear it as you breathe in and out. This is a clear sign of a chest infection. There are hundreds of different types it would be IImpossible to guess which type without seeking medical advice. Pneumonia and tonsilitus are common but each varies and needs to be treated or it will get worse. I have 11 years experience with these symptoms and can anticipate it before it happens in most people... if you cough or choke a lot everytime you lay down then sleep sitting up..also this is not a good sign it means your getting worse... seek immediate treatment.if its not on your chest then its something else.

Me too. embarrasingly, i am in RN school and smoke...Constantly clearing throat and occasionally out pops a clear jelly ball. I do take ACE inhibitors which can cause the "ACE cough". I don't know if this is part of that but will try to find out. Anyone else take ACE Inhibitors(any of the high blood pressure meds that end with the letters "...pril"?

I had stopped smoking and had them more often. But I also had them when I smoked I did think if I stopped smoking it would go away. I have stopped again so I will keep you posted. But I have also been reading it's like if you have to clear your throat this clear round ball of mucus will come flying out! So embarrassing!

Iget tonsil stones from time to time and I also just recently started coughing up the clear jelly balls.. They are definitely different, because like you said tonsil stones are yellowish and they also smell like the worst bag breath you can imagine. The only explanation I have found is that they are a response to allergies but also could be a number of other things. The only way to know for sure what's causing them isb to see a doctor.

I have the same thing for three + years now. Acid reflux or silent reflux. Your throat and esophagus are irritated. Sometimes you can inhale the reflux and that causes lung inflamation which creates phlegm. It takes a long time to go away. Get your acid reflux under control to begin healing. DGL can help as do pharmaceuticals like Nexium and Zantac. It will take many months so dont expect miracles right away. And it does come back. It takes serious dedication to lifestyle & diet changes. Good luck!

That's what I thought it was at first too! But I do continue to take my 150 mg of zantac everyday! Thanks for the info through!
