Hello,
I’ve been diagnosed with ovarian cancer three years ago and had complete hysterectomy and my ovaries removed, followed by chemotherapy. I’m 52 now and so far cancer-free, but my physician wants me to start taking Micardis (Telmisartan) for my slightly higher blood pressure.
The problem is, after looking into information about Micardis online, it turns out it might contribute to developing cancer, or in my case, cancer recurring which is, naturally, the last thing I’d want. However, FDA approved this med for treating high blood pressure, but I’m not sure I’m ready to risk taking Micardis, unless it’s absolutely necessary. If anyone on here is taking this medication, what is your experience?
Hi,
there is some research suggesting that Micardis and medications from similar group of blood lowering medications are linked with higher rates of cancer occurrence, especially lung cancer, in people who were taking these medications for longer period of time.
Unfortunately, there is so far no data that could help clarify will Micardis or similar medication for lowering high blood pressure contribute to recurrence of cancer in people who already had or have cancer.
Wish you all the best,
Nicole
