Hello, my son is 17 years old and he had a severe lung infection. Doctor recommended him to take Chlorophenicol which helped him a lot, but after that we have realized that his immune system is weak. First, we thought that it was because of the condition he endured but constant low values of wbc/neutrophil counts tells us that something is wrong. Could chlorophenicol be the cause of that?

Chlorophenicol is an antibiotic that has many effects. It is not the first choice in the treatment of bacterial infection, because of the side effects. One of the most serious ones in the depression of bone marrow, which leads to decreased levels of all blood cells, including wbc. That might be the cause.
