I have spoken to several doctors and they think that this situation is due to stress. Ive had this prickly, itching, pins and needles over my upper body and head for half a year now. I am in college and about to graduate so I am expremely worried about finding a job or a place to live. The doctor said that under stress, the body releases adrenaline, which can lead to these conditions when they accumulate. He suggested exercise, eat healthy, detoxify (drinking lots of water, eating fruits) , and to relax by preforming yoga. I will try all this and report back if anything changes.

Hello everybody,
I got exactly the same problem, like literally. I've got it for like the last 5 years, ever since I moved to a cold country (from Aruba to the Netherlands). It seems that everytime I went back to Aruba, I don't have this itchy prickling feeling. I cannot do any activities at all, I even get the itchy feeling when I'm stressed or nervous.

This sounds like some form of urticaria -- something I've lived with for years. The problem is, if most doctors can't determine it's prickly heat or just dry itchy skin, they give it the term "idiopathic" urticaria, which simply means it's "self-causing". What we have is considered chronic, because most people coming in with our symptoms experience them a day or a few days occurring a few times within a couple week. Ours occurs daily for months. They may also have much milder symptoms.
The single most annoying thing about dealing with doctors regarding this condition is that the "cure" is to "try to cool yourself down". I cannot cool myself down 24/7 for 4-5 months out of the year without going into hibernation. This is the point where your knowledge of the subject goes beyond the majority of doctors out there by researching it. You need to find a doctor who knows a lot about urticaria, not dermatologists that are doing botex injections and wrinkle treatments most of the time.
Good luck to all you sufferers of this condition. I hope one day there is a real cure for this problem that makes life miserable for months at a time.

i don't know whether medicins work for this or not because i have not taken any and u all know why..believe me i have suffered from this for 4 yrs now..but now i know how to solve this..
JUST WAIT FOR SUMMERS AND WHEN IT COMES WORK OUT AS MUCH AS U CAN..I DO 1 TO 1NAD A HALF HR OF RUNNING EVERYDAY SO THAT I SWEAT..AND BELIEVE ME NOW I CAN RUN THAT MUCH EVEN IN WINTERS ...BUT IF I SKIP RUNNING EVEN FOR 4OR 5 DAYS THIS ITCHING COMES AGAIN ..SO YOU JUST HAVE TO START RUNNING OR DO ANY OTHER PHYSICAL ACTIVITY WHICH MAKES U SWEAT ,REMEMBER (YOU HAVE TO SWEAT A LOT)
AND THEN U CAN CONTINUE THIS EVEN IN WINTERS..

I have been dealing with this for abour 2 years now. I just stumbled across this webiste when I searched "dry skin inhibiting sweat" the condition is called Ichthyosis Vulgaris
After reading up it appears it is genetic and in turn has no cure. the site reads, "In Vulgaris the rate of shedding of the dead skin is slower than normal. As a result, the skin could become dry, flaky and even scaly."
"The cooling function of the skin is impaired when dryness and flakiness of the skin inhibit sweating, causing a bad prickly itch discomfit. However, the severity of both cosmetic and functional problems is a function of climate and weather."
"Even people with the more severe cases of Vulgaris can sweat profusely in the right conditions. And the right conditions are hot and humid weather. Subtropical and tropical weather facilitates sweating. Sweating exfoliates the dry and flaky skin. The improved skin in turn allows for uninhibited perspiration in a virtuous cycle. On the other hand, cold and dry weather inhibit perspiration. In the absence of sweating, dry flakiness builds up worse and worse. For the more severe Vulgaris cases, the cooling function of the skin is impaired to the point where the flakiness is so widespread and severe that the individual would suffer a bad prickly itch discomfit when he or she needs to sweat but have great difficulty doing so."
recomended treatments include lotion with alphahydroxy acid to help with exfoliation, salt water (ocean or bath), sauna or steam room, and Bikram Yoga.
I personally have started taking vitamin D, Magnesium, and put a humidifyer in my room. I try to maintain a humidity of 55% . It hasn't even been a week yet so I'm still working on it.
