I am on day 11 of my tonsillectomy. I have been smoking my bong occasionally with ice in it throughout and have been fine. However I am on day 11 and my scabs are almost completely off and it is a little raw back there. I assume the new skin is starting to grow over and be completely healed. I am afraid smoking at this stage will interrupt that. The pain has almost completely subsided today and is just a little sore when I swallow. Thoughts? Think I am ok to hit my bong?
Smoking, including using a bong, can be detrimental to the healing process after a tonsillectomy. The smoke and heat can irritate the delicate tissues in your throat and delay healing, which may increase the risk of complications.
Tonsillectomy is a surgical procedure that involves removing the tonsils, and it leaves open wounds in the throat. During the healing process, scabs form over the surgical sites, and as these scabs fall off, new tissue begins to form. Smoking during this time can disrupt this process, potentially leading to delayed healing, increased pain, infection, or other complications.
If you want to ensure a smooth and speedy recovery, it is best to avoid smoking, including using a bong, until your throat has completely healed and your doctor gives you the go-ahead. The exact healing time can vary from person to person, but it usually takes around two to three weeks for the throat to heal after a tonsillectomy.
Good luck!
