Hello, I am a 33 yr old male and I was dealing with hems for close to 20 yrs . Body cast combined with morphine and other opiates after being hit by a car at 12 yrs of age caused severe constipation, which in turn caused hems. I lived with it until recently I bled through my suit pants while talking to a client who is a local celebrity. He didn't see, but it was enough for me to take the jump. Well, here I am...day 4 after having two large clusters (both internal and external) removed on Tues at 9am. My doc prescribed Toridol (sp?) which is a miracle drug, but tomorrow is the last day of the 5day max on that drug and I am a little worried because I have not had a BM. I have been taking Norco as well, but not as much or as often as it says I can on the bottle. I didn't eat much two days preceding the surgery and did the enemas the day of and since the surgery I have only eaten broth with egg, chicken soup with very little else than the broth, applesauce, and a little sherbet. I have taken milk of mag at night, as well as a dulcolax or two per day. I haven't drank a ton of water, becuase my doc said not to over do it because I would have some difficulty urinating--which I have and have only gone in the tub. But I have drank a fair amount. I have had gas shooting all around my innards loud enough for my wife to hear in the next room and have farted a lot, but no BM. So I have a couple theories...first, from my wife is that I have been eating low residual foods and just haven't had to go yet. But I have gone one to two times a day forever. Albeit, I have been eating much differently, but I have still eaten. My theory is that I have accompanied those daily BMs with pushing all my life and I am terrified to push right now. Since the surgery, often, when gas is shooting to and fro inside, it will get right to where it is going to come out and because I won't push, it goes back. And this is painful, but eventually it comes out on it's own. I was hoping this mode of operation would work for the BMs too, but I have had nothing but gas. I am starting to wonder if my system is so accustomed to pushing, that it is holding on until I push. I don't want to push because it hurts, but also because I don't want the sutures to come apart and IDON'T want another hem. My God, please anything but that. There is no unusual pressure down there, I am just worried because I haven't gone. So...based on what I have told you, what do you think? Think I am comstipated, or do you think my wife is right in saying that I just have been eating low residual foods and have not HAD to go yet? And if you have any tips for me, I would greatly appreciate them. One last thing--I have noticed that many here eat tons of fiber post surgery and recommend others do as well. I asked my doctor about that because he told me to be on a mostly liquid diet through the weekend, and he said he recommends high fiber, but not until after the first BM because he said it's often that you won't have a BM for the first couple days and that if you eat lots of fiber before then, it can stack up and complicate things. I normally eat tons of fiber to deal with the hems and have a couple nutribullet shakes a day, but I have had virtually no fiber since the surgery, other than what's in the apple sauce--oh and I ate a can of peaches last night. Thanks and sorry for my long-windedness! Please advise!
I was wondering after all that time what's happen to you? do you feel better? everything is back to the normal?
