I have what i believe is a definite sebacious prominence, as i know what it looks like and have researched it. It is minor however. My problem is, i had 2 or 3 slightly larger bumps on the upper left side of my penis. looking back, they were so small i should've left them be, but alas i picked and attempted to pop one, numerous times. since then, it's gotten a bit more prominent, and i believe i have a small but noticeable (at least to me) sebaceous cyst under the penis skin. it is freely movable and feels noticeably raised What i am wondering is if picking such a thing can make it permanently bigger, or if it was developing all along, and if there is any way, preferably through topical creams to get rid of it or make it smaller, without surgery. And if i do need surgery in the long run, i would like to know if anyone has had it, and if scarring on the penis is bad. Thanks, and i hope to see some responses soon! :-P P.s. There is absolutely no chance it is an STD.

It could be sebaceous cyst that got inflamed from constant picking or even infected with skin bacteria. Depending on if it is inflammation or infection and it could also be both, you could try with applying hydrocortisone cream and an antibiotic cream (not at the same time) to get rid of it. It would be even better to have it checked with a dermatologist so you would know for sure what to use.

yeah, i think im going to goto a derm when the self- inflicted inflamation from picking subsides, that's when i guess i'll know wether the recent attempt to pop it screwed it up even further or if it didnt make a difference. but as far as removal of these small penile cysts go, does anyone have any experience with it? One doctor i visited said that such a surgery could screw up the entire penis. thats pretty scary, but im not afraid of a risk free surgery.

well, a few questions - if a cyst is inflamed, does it permanently enlarge? if not how long till back at its original size? also, if anyone has had the surgery for removal on their penis, does it scar bad, is it very risky? i could care less about my sebaceous prominence but this particular cyst is becoming an issue. I'll see my dermatologist when the new swelling subsides, but until then, this forum is all the help i have to attain piece of mind. im a pretty confident dude but i'd like to not have this cyst. I hate the answer "its normal" seeing as cysts arent normal... they're full of nasty sh*t that shouldn't be there. so thanks for the last reply, i could use a little more help though. Also aside from prescription medicines, is there any over the counter solution or at least partial solution? I tried clearasil, it doesnt work, although i didnt really expect it to.

Yeah this sucks. I'm sick of doctors saying that it's normal. Whatever. It's not. I've tried removing these things myself...and it hurts and offers no cure. I'm going to start trying the acne creams. See where that gets me. I'll check back in if I notice any differences.

I had a plactic surgeoun cut it out, and no scar because the scrotal skin is convoluted anyway, so no scar. I wore tight underware with bacitracin, and was healeddwithin 2 days. Was really no big deal/

If you dont get all of it out, it will come back. It looks like a little sac fllled with sebacious fluid-a little ecosystem with it's own blood supply. Suffice to say I have 2 new ones, thta wer barely noticeable but playin gwith them in my sleep has cause them to be more prominent. i will probably get removed if it becomes bigger. Best bet is not to manipulate it.

Defintely do not squeeze it becauae at that point it get s to the no turning back point.

A doctor priort this one wanted to freeze it-nt ia good idea--it all has to be removed if you want to get rid of it.
