Yes have been on depo for 15 years as well .I am 48 yrs old and have had a total hip replacement and total knee replacement.Going to be stuffed in another 10 yrs.Dr believes it's not the depo and just bad luck I have osteoarthritis so young and aggressive.
I was on depo for 19 years. The doctors never mentioned anything to me about the bone loss till last month. I have already fractured bones and not known it. I am going to the doctor Tuesday and demanding a bone scan.
I have severe osteoporosis because of the depo shot. An d insurance doesn't pay for the medicine that could help. I am in my mid 40s and if I fall I am ruined for life. All because the black box to state to be off it for one year after every 2 years wasn't stated.
I have been on Depo for 15 years as well. Just went off at age 51 because I was menopausal. The month I was supposed to receive my next injection I had a horrible joint pain in my entire body. Bone spurs on my knees hoping that it would go away I went to the doctor he told me I have knees of a 72 year old and in the next few years I will need a double knee replacement. Its not bad luck, its from Depo Provera
I am 56. I was on depoprovera for about 20 years. It cured the terrible periods and mood swings. I asked my OBGYN for a hysterectomy but was told that depo works so my insurance company would not pay. When I asked to have hysterectomy self pay I got nowhere. I took calcium with magnesium and D and ate too much dairy food. My spouse was all about me staying on it because I was good to travel and work 7 days a week 365 days a year and really happy all the time because fear of my period starting and ruining plans went away. When I moved and my new OBGYN wouldn't prescribe it I doctor shopped and found one who would. Finally I tested positive for menopause and no doctor will prescribe any type of Rx birth control. I have been off of depo for about three years. While I was on it I had both knees replaced at 45 years. Then untreatable spine trouble. I used to be an athlete and now I'm an invalid who can't even use my hands. My mother, aunts and grandmothers didn't have hand twisting arthritis until they were in their late 60's. I got quite overweight over the 20 years but remained fat fit--blood pressure ok, no diabetes, low resting heartbeat, regular exercise, active diving, swimming and no foot ankle or hip pain. Now I use an electric wheelchair (hands won't grip the wheels of regular wheelchair) and type with two fingers due to trigger fingers and twisting joints. Doctors won't talk to me or treat me because they believe that if I would just loose weight I would feel better, then arthritis wouldn't wouldn't hurt so much. When I ask them if being overweight made my fingers twist and click they just stare at me. Now I have destroyed my stomach with NSAIDs and I sit. Was it deprovera or obesity or menopause or diving or just bad luck? If depo, I did it to myself because depoprovera gave me 20 extra good years. Now I sit. Good luck to all who suffer.
Hi I have osteoporosis to at 29. How are you doing now?
