Hello, all.

Uncle of mine has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, and after chemo, he has big problems with eating. He's complaining that everything he eats taste awful and food makes him nauseous. I know it's side effects from chemo, and that digestive tract issues persist even after the drugs wear off. He doesn't have mouth or throat ulcers or anything similar which can block food passage, but sometimes he suffers from diarrhea.

So, do you have any tips about food I can prepare for him? Or, even better, are there any foods that don't cause nausea and vomiting in cancer patients?

Looking forward to your replies.

Hi, Richard.

Your uncle is facing with common problem. It's important to remember that food consists not only of taste, but of smell as well. So, try to prepare his meals in other room and wait a bit before you serve it.

Furthermore, let him eat his favorite foods, and serve him smaller meals few times a day. Try to avoid spices or similar foods which can burn his mouth.

For more info, read the great article from our author Robert Rister which will be published tomorrow under title "Cooking For Cancer Treatment: Making Food Taste Good When Everything Tastes Awful".

Hope this will help.
