Hi, I am 17 years old and I’m deeply depressed. My friends and family say that I’m just going through a puberty, and that my depression is just s phase. I feel betrayed because I was always there when they needed my help and support. Now when I need help, no one takes me seriously. They describe my depression as “normal”. Do you find it normal?

Hi, I am not depressed any more, but I know how it feels to be depressed. I experienced the same thing as you, and it lasted for three years. All of my high school memories are white and black like some old pictures. I don’t remember smiling one single time, I was always on the side and very quiet. I didn’t find it normal then, and I don’t find it normal now. It was very hard for me to be alone all that time. No one was trying to understand me, they all thought it was just a puberty. If it really was just a puberty, then why was I the only one in my class alone and depressed? Maybe depression is common in teenagers, but it’s certainly not normal. I went to psychologist, and sharing my problems really helped me. Talking about it is the first step of curing it. Good luck!
