Hey, I was reading this because I had a transvaginal unltra sound, for the same reason as you. They also asked me if I was a virgin and said they couldn't do it if I was so that must be common. Mine hurt really bad, a little when they were looking at my right ovary and she said my left one was a little high and she was trying to find it, it hurt REALLY bad, I made her stop for a minute and ot felt a little better and she went again and it just hurt so bad that I had to make her stop. It still hurts really bad, in the same spot.

I have to get one soon and am scared, I'd rather have the one where they move the wand around your stomach, it's awkward that other way, didnt know thy even did it the other way until today. I don't want someone to look at me.. And if its bigger and has to go further in then a tampon!! Ahh :-(

I also am scheduled for an internal ultrasound... I'm scared to death because I am a virgin, and went for my first OB/GYN visit the other day and was crying and yelling when she put the speculum in and again when she did the actual papsmear....... I am afraid that because it's definitely going to be painful they'll stop and refuse to do it....... I also have an intact hymen..

I recently found out that I will have to go in for one of these test in a few days to see if I have pcos. I am completly uncomfortable not only with the transvaginal but also with the abdominal. I to am a virgin and I really don't want anyone touching me anywhere near there. I am terrified of not only that but the results, any advice?

i'm the same person who posted just before you...... I went, and the abdominal isn't so bad, mine was weird because I have a huge scar and the edges of the ultrasound wand kept pressing into it........ The transvaginal one hurt for like 10 seconds and then it's just a little bit weird feeling but not painful.

My girlfriend do have PCOS and she goes for regular scan. We are both of legal age but we had not have sex yet. Her main concern is that she is afraid that her doctor might know that she is not a virgin anymore upon her next check-up. Is it possible for the ultra-scan to be able to detect if she's still a virgin anymore?

I am a post menopausal gal and I just had my first TV US today and it was not bad at all!  I was very nervous about it and I told the very nice tech about my concerns I had (from reading the experiences of others online) and she said that I shouldn't read ahead of time so that I won't worry about it.  She said that they have 80+ yr old women who go through the procedure just fine.  Anyway, what a relief that my experience was not bad at all.  Now, I just hope the results will be good too!  Good luck ladies!

I am glad to see that I am not the only one out there with these issues. I am going in for a transvaginal ultrasound and I am scared to death. I am still a virgin and I am extremely self-conscious when it comes to my body. I know I have to get this done as my Doctor is trying to determine if I have PCOS or not. After reading some of these posts I noticed that someone mentioned that if you are a virgin this test is really not necessary. How true is that statement?

As a virgin, REFUSE!!!! It is your right and there are other imaging methods.
I am an older virgin; when I went in with menopausal problems, my doctor ordered an ultrasound without so much as telling me that the vaginal probe existed! After the external ultrasound, the two young techs (not a MD in sight) casually said, "Now we do the inside one." I said, "Don't you dare!! I am a virgin and that isn't going to happen!" When I complained to my doctor, he just said that he couldn't worry about that. I dropped him like a hot potato.

Hey ladies

Thanks so much for the advice. I'm a virgin too, and I'm super scared of going to the gynae. Friday is my first appointment and I'm so nervous and scared. I've been getting my periods extremely heavy and painful, Its been 12years now so I need to go get it checked out. I hope its nothing serious, but with the abdominal ultrasound I feel much more at ease. Thanks sunkissed1644 your question really helped me.

So your future wife's health is all about you?? Seems you might not understand LOVE. I'd recommend not getting married until you've gained some emotional maturity.

For virgins who are scared to have a transvaginal ultrasound, you can opt for a transrectal untrasound instead.

I had a pelvic ultrasound the other day and she wanted me to have the one you are talking about and I refused! I am still a virgin and I would have been extremely embarrassed.

Good for you, this is your choice! A transvaginal ultrasound would have broken your hymen (what makes you a virgin) and also caused you some embarrassment - it's your body and your right to refuse.
