so im on both lovonox and coumadin for some blood clots in my lungs, and im a pretty regular smoker. i didnt talk to the doc about smoking green bc my parents were with me at the time, that would have been awkward. so i guess my question for you guys is do you see a difference in heart rate or breathing when/after you smoke? i just dont know if smoking is going to put unnecessary stress on my heart/lungs and if i should stop while on blood thinners. what do you guys think?

I have been on coumadin for 5 years and always tested around 2. I smoked for the 1st time in the last year the night before my last PT test and my INR was a 3. Is that a coincidence?

Your INR dropping is likely due to working out more, causing your body to metabolize warfarin (Coumadin) more quickly and therefore you might need a higher dose of warfarin.

Marijuana can increase your appetite, leading to a drop in INR. This is due to consuming more vitamin K overall in your regular diet.

Most of the literature states that marijuana has no effect on INR, but there are a few case studies that showed an increase INR.

Don't know about the marijuana's effect on coumadin but I do know that antibiotics such as Tetracyclin will increase the blood thinning & raise your INR. Be careful with the penicillin & get your INR checked more often.

1.0 is not a recommended average. That is dangerously low. Where are you getting this info? My averages are 2.5 to 3.5.

so my wife was diagnosed with cerebral venus sinus thrombosis In January. Basically both jugular arterys were were clotted. she was prescribed warfarin about 2 months ago and they want her levels inbetween 2-3. she has been on 5mg for about 10 days because her levels were ranging at 3.1 and 3.2. she began to smoke some pot about 7 days ago and with the reduced warfarin dose we did a test this afternoon and she has jumped to 5.1. pot is the only thing we have changed in her every day life so I am confident that it is reacting with her warfarin. she is quit as of today and has another blood test in 5 days so we will see for ourselves the results of mixing both chemicals.

Your best option as far as health would be a water pipe with a nice percolator and maybe an ash catch. It smooths the smoke and lessens the negative affects on your lungs.

Y'all wrote this a year ago, but now a days they say marijuana INCREASES your INR. I stopped smoking for a drug test so the doctor will give me narcotics, and my INR has been low like crazy. I got it tested a week ago, and it was 1.4, I took twice my recommended dose for a week, and it was still 1.4.

Below you will see a comment from a guest saying his PT/INR was fine at 1.0 (the recommended average) as he put it. Your INR should be between TWO and THREE. (2-3)

If you get your weed from Tweed in Smith's Falls, Ont., you have nothing to worry about. The product is terrible, there is not even a "buzz" after smoking it. The weed is so dry it turns to dust when you try to roll it. You would be much better off smoking horsesh1t.

Wuddup I had a dvt in my leg and a pulmonary embolism. Same thing couldn't walk and couldn't breath or even sleep barely unless I was sitting up. I have done alot of reading and it seems that there is a moderate interaction with coumadin or generic jantovin . Thou you will come to find out based on how your feeling kidneys arms legs etc u can get an idea of what your inr will be. Mary Jane does slow the clotting effect so u may be prone to bleed depending you "dosage" of the herb. But as for risk of clotting because of smoking as far as I have seen and read haven't been any links between the two.

It really doesn t matter how much vitamin k you eat as long as whatever it is you are eating is consistant. Ex. If you are eating green vegatables 3x a week then make sure you continue to eat greens 3x a week.
