I'm 19yrs old. i dont drink or smoke. but my SGPT level is elevated. will i get my SGPT level normal permanently. and how to get cured of this problem. my doc said that i got this problem due to improper exercise and improper diet. Is this true?

Hi guest,

That sounds like a pretty vague response from your doctor.

SGPT - Serum Glutamic Pyruvate Transaminase can increase if there is liver damage.  This can be from drugs, it could indicate an infection, maybe hepatitis, or it can happen from exercise.

High SGPT by itself doesn't mean there is a problem, it needs to be verified by other tests.

I know it's not the best answer.  It's hard to put into words but the best way I can answer this is to put it like this.  Instead of saying your SGPT was high, suppose you said your heart rate (pulse) was high.  By itself that doesn't mean anything as it can be caused by anxiety or exercise.  You'd need other tests to find out if there really is a problem.

Hope it helps.
