I am very worried about a condition called endometriosis. YOU see, I have had problems with my periods ever since I got my first 4 years ago. They are very painful and heavy. My best friend told me her aunt had similar problems and was diagnosed with this condition-endometriosis. She has been on treatments but the problem seems to be coming back and she can’t get pregnant now. Can you tell me more about this disease please, and how I can find out if I have it or not? Thanx heaps
Endometriosis means that the tissue that lines the inside of the uterus (endometrium) grows outside the uterus and attaches to other organs in the abdominal cavity such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes. This tissue outside uterus acts the same way as if it were in the uterus and during menstrual cycle it swells and thickens, then sheds to mark the beginning of the next cycle. The blood is shed in the abdominal cavity, has no place to go, results in pools of blood and causes inflammation that forms scar tissue. This scar tissue can block the fallopian tubes or interfere with ovulation. You can visit a gynecologist and see if everything was in order. Endometriosis usually appears in the women’s reproductive years.
