Excessive Mucus - A Slow Frustrating Death

I am interested in natural help for extreme mucus drainage. I use neil med rinse twice or more daily and silver solution spray and no help. Thank you for any natural advice.

Oh my goodness...I am trying to get in touch with my daughter at this very moment. My granddaughter who is 5 has been going through throwing up at the same time every night for months. She can't get too excited or upset or she will throw up too. And most generally it is thick clear mucus looking stuff. This all started after they got a cat in the house...the pediatrician she was seeing at first said don't get rid of the cat yet...well that is the first thing I would have done...but I do understand the children love the cat...I can't stand to see my sweet little granddaughter go through this any more. They just did an upper GI yesterday, but looking at most of the posts these tests don't usually show there is a problem, but if you live with the child or keep them for any length of time you KNOW there is a problem. I am going to ask my daughter to talk to her Dr. today about the adenoid issue and I am going to talk to her about getting rid of the cat. I hope we get it figured out soon and I hope everyone on here finds a solution for their problem as well. Thanks for the advice!

I am also experiencing the same thing. It started when i've been through the fatal stress. No one could explain why it's happening. But i noticed to myself that whenever my stress level is high, i am starting to get a lot of mucus on my throat, choked up and then vomit. No medicine can cure it as for my personal experience. I just learned to control my stress. I hope you get well too because i know how hard it is. Tc, God bless

I sympathize tremendously with you. It is very scary to not know what is wrong and to have a serious problem like this. I too have had issues for past few months. I am suffering from a similar problem with lack of good medical expertise. I feel like I cant breathe and often fell like I am choking too. I think that it is horrible as well. I dream of myself choking too as I often fell that way. I get peace in the dream but often wake up in sweats which is also part of the problem and I ttrsted positive for Cyto megaly virus CMV if you havent seen an infectious disease specialist that may be the answer for you too. They seem to delve deeper into the symptoms and want o figure out the problem better. Also bertter educated.Hopefully they can help both of us.

Look up cyto megaly virus. SHe may have it. Her immune system sounds compromised and not able to fight infections. My infectious diseas dr just found out with a blood test I have it and now they are pursuing that avenue with a bronchoscopy to test in my lungs. They will probably kill me next. I do have CMV though. Hope the poor thing can get this resolved.

I have also had overproduction of mucus, most of my adult life (25+ years). When I had the allergy prick test a few years ago, I found that I am allergic to thirty different things - but none severely (the "wheals" were all around 5-6mm in diameter). I am getting immunotherapy (allergy) shots, which seemed to help at first, but lately I am back to being a mucus machine.

No dairy, no wheat or gluten, no soy, no yeast diet helps a little bit, but is not a cure. I also have GERD and gastritis...which aggravates the sinuses, etc. A few docs diagnosed me with fibromyalgia; one said I have leukopenia; I definitely have IBS with constipation (very mucus ridden BMs!!!); I have been tested for a few autoimmune diseases, but not all...For years I have felt that this is all autoimmune-related, and have always gotten sick easily.

Smells bother me - chemical smells - and I am sensitive in every sense of the word! I tested positive for candida a few months ago, and took Diflucan. Now, I am using oil of oregano to keep it at bay - the pure oil is so potent, you need only to put two drops in a shot of water or juice and drink it once or twice a day. It kills yeast - keeps it from spreading - and I swear it helps my digestion!

It is always my head and my belly - usually, simultaneously - and I get nauseous daily and am underweight because I cannot eat much; there is probably too much mucus in my stomach! But I do use Nasonex, and phenylephrine on occasion, as well as Claritin. I have used a Neti-Pot for many years, and often put a dab of Vicks just under each nostril, which helps when I feel I am getting clogged.

I also found out that my gallbladder is not functioning properly - "lazy" - and have the option of removal. Instead, I am trying a gallbladder type diet, to see if that helps. I do take Zantac, which works well; Prilosec should only be a last resort, especially for women, because it causes bone density loss!!!

There are more tests scheduled for me and if anything comes up I will repost :) I feel for all of you, and best of luck. Don't give up! Keep researching online, and find some things that work for you!

Wow - glad I came across this thread. I am exactly as many said (the OP and several after him) - mucus stuck in the back of my pharynx which makes me gag until I (nearly) vomit. I need to clear my throat so loudly and violently and so often that people turn around and look at me. About 5 years progressively worse - but last year or so almost unbearable. I have also tried all the meds, the sinus sprays, the steroids the two-week antibiotic course.. Nothing helps. For more than a month now I've been slowly losing my voice and am now worried that maybe I have larynx or throat cancer - or maybe Barrett's syndrome. As someone else said, I too went to the ENT guys and he wants to shove this tube down my thorat through my nose with no sedation of any kind - no thanks. It seems they all want to do it that way.. What's with that?

Do you have answers yet ? What's the deal with the Drs.? They act like we are crazy, I don't get the attitude.. they really need to help us find answers! It's just dreadful ....

The only illness I am aware of where mucus consumes your life is cystic fibrosis. But you would also have trouble with digesting food. Still it wouldnt hurt to be tested.

When I go to Florida, and sit by the beach the warm humid air relieves all of my symptoms. Here in California, High Dry pressure system is like a hammer blow to the head with constant mucus. But I have a cat, and so that doesn't help. Also eating any type of warm to hot food makes my nose run and I must blow.

Can you tell us which brand of mouth guard you bought? Is this the same as a night guard?

hi there my daughter is constantly trying to clear her throat. she has been doing this for about 1.5 yrs and at times says it is hard to breat. hubby n i took jer to doctors sevral times and specialidt who says there is nothing there. done tests for allergies and gave her nasil spray but she is the same and has no allergies. i dont know what else to do i hav never herd of any one with this type of problem but it is driving her and is mad. any advice would be much appreciated thank you cryst
