Hm. The same sort of thing happened to me today. I'm glad I found this forum! I was worried that I had a miscarriage because I had been throwing up and feeling weird previous to this happening and then I get my period and this glob of something shows up. Needless to say I was freaked out. I guess I'll have to go to the doctor but I'm not on any B.C. and I am sexually active. I'll be sure to post something if the Dr. tells me anything that might be of use. Hopefully, its just the blood "clots". Best of luck to all the other women who are in the same boat as me.

Erm i dont know if anybody is still ahving these problems but i passed a wierd lump of tissue today for the first time. Am freaked out, it was whitish gray with no blood but it was kind of like a pouch not a flat bit of tissue, it tapered down to an end which was a dark maroon colour but not bloody. I dont think it was a miscarriage as ive been told i cant conceive naturally, Any ideas?

I am 38 years old have 2 children have had many rough periods with heavy blood clots but never tissue that was somewhat transparebt and definetely fleshy. I got the depo shot 2 months ago. Last month NO period this month it started a week ago and has been getting worse and worse!!!! the cramping is close to early labor and if I haven't been abstinant I would have thought definite miscarriage!! I got the depo to stop cramps and wow I DON"T recommend it!!! I am seeing my doctor today and will let you all know what she says!! The cramping is crippling when this flesh stuff is shedding and never in 19 years of periods 2 children have I ever seen this!!! Be back in a few hours to update you!!

I'm in the same boat today. Started Yaz on 12/12/08 about 3-4 days after my last period stopped, having my first "period" on it. I experienced this once before, several weeks after starting Seasonale. Today, the tissue was dark colored, not bloody but accompanied by a few small blood clots. It was actually a "tube," if that makes sense, a ring of tissue about 1/4" - 3/8" thick, about 1 -1/2" - 2" wide and probably 6 inches long if it had been laid out straight. It passed after intense cramping, which has been happening off and on for a few days. I had to laugh when somebody said that those of us experiencing this had not been paying attention to previous periods--obviously any woman would notice a piece of tissue as long as the span of your hand coming out.

I'm on the Pill because my cramps have always been so bad that I haven't been able to function for a few days every month. It's not uncommon for me to miss 1-2 days of work per month because I can't stand up from the pain and I'm throwing up everything that passes my lips. Unfortunately not much has changed yet and I'm home from work on my period again.

Last month when I got on Yaz for all this, I mentioned the experience I'd had on Seasonale to my current doctor. She wasn't too concerned about it because it had happened in the first few weeks of me starting the BC. She said that your body can freak out the first 3 months you start any BC and My previous doc didn't even acknowledge my concerns--lol, that particular doc is reputed to be very concerned about "women's issues," but all she really did was ignore my concerns and then try to convince me that although I'm happily abstinent and on the Pill for wretched periods, I need a prescription for the morning after pill. But that's neither here nor there ;-)

Anywho, because my current doc isn't too worried, I'm really not either. I'm planning on keeping track of my symptoms for the next few periods and if it continues or worsens after 2 more cycles I'll probably go in.

I have searched the web for info on the pieces of skin and tissue that have appeared in my cycle today. This site is really reassuring because even the surgery staff sounded as though they'd not come across it. Will see doc if it continues and have booked in for a smear.
I am 39. I am not on any form of the pill but use a diaphram. I think that my cycle is about 5 days early and this month it follows a day after intercourse. I don't know whether some damage has occurred and that's why the skin has come away? It seems to be in pieces with some long strands like you've described. It's definitely not a clot because i'd recognise that from having my 3 children. There's some soreness but no internal pain so i'm not rushing to the doctor, just monitoring it.
Would be really interested to know if anyone else has experienced this tissue appearing in a period, after sex?

Apparently this is more normal than I had thought.
Here's my story...
I recently started taking birth control about a month ago and this morning I started my period, first one while on B.C., and noticed the same tissue like substance described on all these posts and totally freaked. It was a greyish color and about 2 inches long. I've experienced blood clots before while on my period, but never anything like this. I'm so glad to hear that it's fairly normal.

I had this happen and went to the emergency room to get checked out because I had never in all my horrible periods have had this happen. I went to the emergency room freaked out that maybe some how i had gotten pregnant and miscarried. I did a pregnancy test again there and confirmed that i wasn't pregnant. The doctor did a pelvic to see if anything else was going on he said everything looked fine. He said that the depo-provera sometimes can cause this to happen and labled it as "abnormal uterine bleeding." I had a follow up appointment with the OB GYN today she said again that this could happen, that it was nothing harmful and I'm not dying haha but she did tell me that if i experience pain like i did that i could double up my dosage of motrin. Btw they think but have not confirmed that I have endometriosis, they said the only way they could confirm at this point is surgery, but they don't want me going through that at a young age.

So I've had my period since the beginning of January. Heavy at the start, and now its moderate with some clotting. I'm actually a little worried. I had this same occurrence back in high school and all they did was put me on BC. I'm thinking that i should go back on it to see if it will regulate my period and stop the clotting, because I am highly anemic. The last time this happened I had my period for 2 months w/ clotting and the doctor wanted me to get a blood transfusion. So any idea's or input would be appreciated....

Earlier today i started my first period after taking birth control. It stared three days after i stopped taking the pills. then i found a large piece of tissue maybe 3 or 4 inches long but thin. It was a fairly thick skin like constancy, off white in color and bloody.
this has never happened to me before so i am quite concerned. hopefully, i am going to the doctors in a few days for a pap so i am thankful that i will be able to see what is happening. it has me freaked out but i am glad that there are others out there who have experienced the same thing.
after hearing the pleas i will try to post my results and findings i pray that it is not serious.

I found this forum and the same thing is happening to me but I am not and never have been on any form of birth control. I am 26 y/o.

My period was weird this time because I started getting brown spots (old blood) for 1 week before my period when normally that happens just the day before my period. Then once I got my period, I was only lightly bleeding and then tonight I had some tissue with looks very much like chicken skin. My period has always been clotty but never like this. I examine my period each month looking for any abnormality as I have extreme dysmenorria that my doctor things is from endometriosis. Oddly enough though my period pain wasn't as bad as it normally is this time.

The skin/tissue thing is freaking me out but I lost my job and have no insurance right now.

If anyone gets any new info, please post.

Thank you.

This happened to me yesterday too, and thank goodness I found this forum.
I had been off Yasminelle for almost two months, started taking them a month ago again. My first period taking the pills started yesterday. The chances that I would have gotten pregnant and miscarried were so slight, that I didn't know what to think of the tissue-like thing that came out of me. It's such a big relieve to know that it's fairly normal. I'm still going to call a gynecologist and ask what she thinks, should I get checked or not.
Thank you for talking about this :)

I'm 21, not on any pills, and my sex life is a one-player game most of the time, since my lover lives in another country (we keep up online as often as possible).

I've always had fleshy chunks in my periods. I thought it was normal. I have no insurance, so I haven't been able to ask a doctor about it, but I assumed that it was my uterus lining after finally daring to poke at my bloodied pads with childlike curiosity.

I would think that if there's anything different about your hormones- be it stress or food or medication or whatever- that it could very well change the way your uterus lining peels itself.

Personally, I don't think it's something to worry about too much... but a professional opinion couldn't hurt, so long as you can afford it.

i got a laperscopy (ovarian cyst) and I got shots for birth control which i'm suppose to have no to very light periods. Well i got the surgery almost 2 months ago. I have burning and stinging sensations till this day. I was told it was to heal quickly but no go. Well i started having my period 4-5 days ago. Which is weird since I have periods up to 3 days. Well it started off lightly and than got thick today. I had to go to the restroom and to find that i had a very thick blood clot. it was dark red/blackish and white/greyish. Also i was told that having a cyst removed and having a period can cause much pain. i was wondering is this fine?

This happened to me last night and it scared me a little. It has not happened in a while, since i've been on birth control. I came off of it last month, and the menstral pain last night was unbearable. Then I found about a 1 inch cubed. However, I found this article:
"In the days before ovulation, the hormone estrogen stimulates the uterus to build up its lining with extra blood and tissue, making the walls of the uterus thick and cushioned. This happens to prepare the uterus for pregnancy: If the egg is fertilized by a sperm cell, it travels to the uterus and attaches to the cushiony wall of the uterus, where it slowly develops into a baby.

If the egg isn't fertilized, though — which is the case during most of a woman's monthly cycles — it doesn't attach to the wall of the uterus. When this happens, the uterus sheds the extra tissue lining. The blood, tissue, and unfertilized egg leave the uterus, going through the vagina on the way out of the body. This is a menstrual period."

(source: Nemours Foundation, webpage http://kidshealth.org/teen/sexual_health/girls/menstruation.html)

Looks like it's the excessive uterine tissue that builds up and then sloughs off. I'm not worried anymore knowing that it happens to so many of us.

I have had this for about three years now, thought something of it the first couple times and never saw a doctor, after a while I just forgot about it and thought it was normal until recently when I've been having debilitating cramps along with it....does anyone know what this is?
