Rosie95, As I wrote a few months back, after bringing samples to my ob-gyn and consulting a midwife-fertility expert friend, it's the buildup of blood/lining, and is associated w/ sBCP with uninterrupted pill cycles. It hasn't happened for me in a while, but has 2-3 times. This info should be in the fine print!! I, too, didn't find any info on it online until discovering this forum. It was a shocking and worrisome experience...but totally normal, apparently!

I had a miscarriage and I have also passed uterus lining during a heavy period due to missing pills and getting my period alot later than usual, The miscarriage was in toilet and was like a huge blood clot. It was very painful with cramps and vomiting. The tissue was a more dull pain that took all my energy to move around and felt like a dragging feeling in my uterus. They are very different and you know when you have a miscarriage. I was in bed with it I was so sick.

This happened to me last night after about 3-4 hours of the the worst cramps I've ever had in my life, and that is saying a lot because I suffer from both endometriosis and Chrohn's. The only weird thing about my incident is that I was only on week 2 of my first month of birth control pills. I am taking the new Lo Loestrin FE. It scared the daylights out of me and I spent like half an hour in the bathroom trying to figure out what just happened (I felt it fall out while walking home from work). I decided to extract it from the toilet, but that took major skills and tools considering you couldn't pay me to touch it! I was totally panicked, my stepmom said it was just my uterine lining finally coming out because I haven't had a "real" period in a few months due to the endometriosis, and nobody on my endometriosis board knew what it was. Someone posted today about decidual casts, and it looks identical to those pictures, AND they can happen to women on hormonal birth control due to higher amounts of progesterone. So, mystery solved! Just google endometrial or decidual casts, and you will see that this is exactly what it is! Though I will still be calling the doctor on Monday, and I did keep my "specimen" in case they think I am nuts ;)

This happened to me recently. Ive been on birth control for years for painful periods. I have endometriosis and my doctor told me to try and skip periods. So the first month it worked and the second month my period came while I was still finishing my pack. I started spotting (never have had this) then came full blown. I had a bad cramp and was exhausted I then passed a good sized "skin" like tissue with blood. It wasnt a blood clot. I freaked out called my gyno and she told me it was my endometrial lining/uterus lining. Then the cramps stopped This would of never happened if I hadnt of skipped my period, I think for my personal condition my body just cannot hold onto that blood for so long. I will not being doing that again. Not to mention my period is on going from doing this!

I am 19 years old and this has happened to me quite recently and it was not the first time. During my period, I piece of triangular-shaped flesh would come out but I would not experience any pain. I am not sexually active or on the pill, but this piece of flesh appears not in every period I have but it has appeared more than three times. It is not a blood clot. Any thoughts as to what it could be?

hii...i have been passing really large tissues during my periods for over 5 months when i was at home. Then i moved to university to pursue my studies. My period problems disappeared after the atmosphere around me changed. After completing my graduation, i again came back to home and started having the same problem again. I got really worried about it and then i got the tissue tested and it was my endometrial lining. My doctor told me that i was having the problem due to high levels of stress and recommended me iron and folic acid tablets and these tablets work for me but with high stress levels i again have the same problem. Somewhere i read that stress reduces blood flow to the uterus and causes various problems and this relates to my case to large extent. I still get worried after seeing the tissue and feel normal as the tests had nothing.

Hope it was of some help :)

It sounds like what most of you are describing is a decidual cast.

I took my Yaz pill for a few months and did not take the placebos; my uterine wall became thicker, and I had 'breakthrough bleeding' which included a cast.

It is not too common, but I don't think it is very concerning; our bodies are sensitive to hormone changes and taking the pill as prescribed is important.

It seems like people are still not coming back to let folks know what their doc said. ):<

I'm 22, average weight and height, not sexually active (long-distance boyfriend - I'm a one-man kind of lady). I don't naturally get my period without birth control due to hormone imbalance, but couldn't afford healthcare to get it corrected until I moved to a new state and got my depo shot at a Planned Parenthood mid-October. Until then, I hadn't gotten my period for over a year.

My first period started exactly 4 weeks to the date of my shot, and is still going strong. It has been 2.5 weeks since it started. It started with some light spotting the first few days before it became a steady stream of blood, mostly bright red with darker red 'clots' and a few strands of grey tissue. This is pretty gross: I thought the strands were actually from my tampon string until I poked at it a bit in the shower and the tissue started to disintegrate. It has been steady blood and these strands, flow getting neither lighter nor heavier, although associated with dull cramps and back aches. I haven't had any big chunks that some people describe here, although I have passed some pretty big and bloody 'clots' (they're not clots, just excess tissue).

It actually never occurred to me that this would be anything dangerous or life-threatening. My only concern is having a period for this long, along with a lot of tissue and blood being passed. Having not gotten my period in so long before getting my depo shot, along with my hormonal imbalance, the doc had warned me that my periods might be unusually heavy, if I got them at all while on the shot. I enjoyed my life without a period, so this is a little bit of a bummer! Having my period for so long, tampons have become an actual expense to think about. Anyway, some people here are reporting that this is a number of things - decidual casts, one report of a polyp, several reports of plain old passing tissue - all related to a change in hormones. I don't think this is a major concern, but you should still talk with your gyno and REPORT BACK HERE! I've made a few calls to my local PP, but haven't been able to get an answer.

Stay healthy everyone!

This had happened to me as well. Twice actually. I went to my gyno and had it tested it was just the lining of the uterus that had built up.
