Sometimes this is not normal. A few years ago I almost died. It started out as a little clotting during my period and the clots got bigger with each period. Before the incident, the clots were quite large, almost the size of a pool ball. Then the heavy bleeding started. The first period it happened, I thought that it was just stress or something. It turned back a bit but a couple of months later the clots and the bleeding were crazy. The bleeding was not containable with feminine products. Not even using a tampon and a pad. It would be ok and then I would stand up and it would all hush out and would my cloths through the products. I went to the ER and they told me I had a cervical polyp but it was jo big deal and to just see my gyno. I made an appointment for the next day and he said the same thing, but scheduled surgery for a couple of days later. The following day I nearly died. I literally almost bled to death. It turns out that all that extra blood was actually me hemoragjng and the clots were coagulated blood. I would have died on my bathroom floor if some friends hadn't come to check on me. They found me passed out on the floor. The ambulance was unable to get a blood pressure read or even get an IV needle in me anywhere. I got to the holiday and someone finally got a needle in me and I got 4 bags of transfused blood and emergency surgery to remove the polyp.

I just had the same thing happen. Discharged a endometrium piece of tissue. It's dark and blood colored but when investigated is actually skin rolled up to look like a "clot"!! I read that we obviously pass our lining every cycle. It is tissue we are passing coming out as menstral blood. It is not uncommon to pass a piece of tissue. Do not be alarmed unless it continues in the next cycle at which time I would make an appointment with the gyno. Good luck! I would worry if it is accompanied by any sort of symptoms besides normal period systems you experience.

this happened to me when I woke up this morning. I went to the bathroom to change my pad and there were 2 pieces of thick skin on the pad it was textured and I couldn't remember any pain since I was asleep. unlike anyone else on this forum though, I am not on birth control but I am 17 so it would make sense that my hormones are up and down. Im sure it wasn't a miscarriage because there was no structure to the skin and it was flat. So I'm pretty sure its just the lining of my uterus shedding. This definitely scared the c**p out of me this morning though.

I almost bled to death last time I had my period ( I needed a blood transfusion). If you don't want to take BC that's fine, but mind your own business and don't tell others they don't " need it ". There's many reasons someone have to take birth control.
-Sincerely, a woman with a blood clotting disorder who would need a blood transfusion every month without BC.
