Sorry, but I have to say that I wish more women used common sense and listened to their bodies. Birth control (aka: seasonal, yaz, ortho tri-cyclen, depo) whatever you are taking is NOT natural, nor is skipping your period for 3 months. Doctors are insane to suggest a pill just to regulate your periods or to save you the headache of having a period. Periods are a natural occurrence and a way for your body to rid itself of tissue and cleanse your body. STOP taking birth control unless you absolutely need it. Every women I talk to that has been force fed BC since they were 15-16, is now in their 20s and 30s with endometriosis, gallbladder disease or in one case, organ failure. I'm not overstating or exaggerating. Women should really start thinking for themselves. OBGYNs are predominately male and should not be pushing meds on women. I know mine does. He wanted to surgically insert implanon into my arm like a little tracking device. I tell him to write my script for ortho to move along the conversation and never fill it. With that said, I haven't been on BC in probably 6-7 years as my body never got used to and I didn't like skipping periods, obviously. But I had a similar experience happen to me where I hope my uterine lining was shedding. It was 2 pieces of flesh like tissue, about 2-3 inches and very thick. I had very painful cramps, hot flashes and my period was 2 weeks late. I tested 3x with an at-home pregnancy test and all were negative. I wish I would have saved the tissue! I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted, but I've had heavy periods with small amounts of tissues before so I thought nothing of it. I wonder about my situation in relation to others as I am not on any BC. Maybe this is just a natural thing after all and women just haven't spoken openly until the last few years. Or we are all drugging our poor lady parts to the point that they are now retaliating! Rant over. :)

I have had this also and I took it into my Dr. He said there was no protein in it so it was not a miscarriage but that I had passed a 'Disidual Cast' which is some type of lining of the uterus.

It is most common with miscarriage especially from ectopic pregnancies however it can occur during a normal period. He also told me it was rare and nothing to worry about and that it should not occur very often. I seem to get it every period for several months in a row then not have it for the next few. I really must go back for a second opinion.

I had this same large pinkish tissue on the end of my tampon for the first time. Totally freaked out as I was begging to think I could be pregnant even tho iv started on the pill again three months ago, my last period never came, and today I was late by a few days. I went off depo last August to start trying for a baby this year but we decided to get married in November, and have a baby next year. As the depo takes a long time to leave ur body and become fertile again, and I only started having period again in February, my doctor put me on the pill until after the wedding but as I hadn't bled since starting on the pill I was getting worried. This thick pink tissue isn't making me feel better. I have had surgery to remove pre cancerous cells from my cervex last year, cancer is my biggest worry, baby would just be bad timing but not a bad thing. any advise???

I'm 17 and on my first month of Lutera, a very generic 21 day combination birth control pill. I'm sexually active in a monogamous relationship, but have taken the pills perfectly as perscribed. I'm not worried about being pregnant or miscarrying.

Story:

I started my first month of Lutera a few days before my period was supposed to start. This essentially delayed my period for another month i.e. two months worth of lining building up by the time my body was allowed to expel it. As is common on Lutera, I started my period around the 2nd day of the inactive pills. The bleeding has been very light and even light in color (sometimes an orange-red-pink). I'm on the fourth day of the inactive pills/ 2nd day of my period and suddenly I had cramping. I've had terrible cramps my whole life so it wasn't anything extraordinary or over the top painful but it was still uncomfortable. The bleeding became darker as well, almost black red. I had a tampon in for around 5 hours maybe as I had gone shopping for the day and was out with my S/O. Right before we were going home I felt the worst cramp of the day and then a hot feeling as if blood had just passed around the tampon and into my underwear. I'm sure you've all felt wet heat before when a tampon can no longer hold any more liquid. Sorry if that's disturbing. We got to his appt. and I checked to see if I had ruined another good pair of underwear. Lo and behold there's a lump of chicken skin looking tissue probably around 2in x 1 in.  I then removed the tampon and found another lump, a tad smaller, stuck to it as well. I have not had any cramping since.

From what I've read and inferred it is caused by two things (in my case)

-Change in hormone levels/ introduction of progesterone.

-Delay of my normal period by one month.

As I said, not a single cramp since. I'm guessing this is because cramps occur when each piece of tissue removes itself from the uterine wall. As I have seemingly expelled the entire uterine lining in one go, the cramps should no longer occur.

I've read alot of things tonight to piece it together and am confident it was just the delay of my period that thickened the wall to the point of it all falling out at once than a miscarriage.

I hope this calms a few peoples nerves.

Hello - This happened to me about 30 minutes ago. It was huge - about the size of my finger, solid and very dark. I am on the pill, sexually active but my partner also uses a condom so  can't possibly be pregnant. After reading EVERYTHING on the internet - there seems to be a correlation between taking the pill (and skipping periods deliberately by not taking the sugar pills and starting a new pack like I have done) and these solid skin like discharge.I'm still scared but I think it is just the lining of the uterus or the a decidual cast. Don't worry ladies but please - just to be safe, tell your doctor or at least some of your lady friends :)Good luck

I'm 16 and I've been having the same problem. I'm on the birth control and after a month of taking it I had a 4 inch what looked like tissue but I'm not sure. I'm still a virgin so I don't think this is linked to a miscarriage. But if someone could help figure this out that would be great so I would stop freaking out.

This happened to me this week. I thought it was a miscarriage because I was trying to change my periods timing.I had my blood drawn at the doctors and I wasn't ever pregnant. I can't remember what the nurse called it but basically it was my body discharging a thick cast of my entire uterus. I guess it's pretty common.
