I would like to consult you about my excessive triglycerides results. What can I do about it? I know that the diet is the first way to relieve myself of problems but it is not an easy task, especially with problems I have on the job. What can I do? Medications? Are they the answer?
They could be. But, you said that you know what is the best way of dealing with your problems. And you are right. Balanced food intake, which has all the basic food groups (without excessive eating!) is the right path for not only eliminating high triglycerides level but also for preventing numerous illnesses and disease (including cardiovascular disorders).

Hi

I am replying to the person who had questions about their high lipids condition. The name of what you have is "Hypertryglyceridedmia". It is genetic. My daughter has it, but not parents or siblings. I have been dealing with it for about 19 years.

When first diagnosed, I was given some statin medication and told to excercise regularly and eat a high fiber, high complex carbohydrate and low fat diet. My "T" count then was around 300. Anything above 50 is a concern. I found out by doing my own research and experimenting the best way to handle it. You have to understand it.

It means that almost everything you eat turns into blood fat and it can and usually collects as plaque on the walls of your blood vessels. Over the years more became known and since it requires (ideally) 3-6 month monitoring by 12 hour fast and then blood work at the clinic, I was able to obtain the numbers easily.

The first time I went to this clinic, I was tested after fasting for 12 hours. My number must have been unusually high, because the doctor said he had never seen anyone walking around (not on meds), smoking, drinking and eating weird food...his exact words were "One day you will just fall down from a massive stroke! I don't even know if doing everything right including the medicine will help you...but you must do it". My count was 1430. I was feeling a little fatiogued at the time, so I thought I'd better get with the program!

Well, I started with 2 meds both statins (they seem to somehow alter the amount of fat your liver deals with) and it was both Lopid and Lipitor. But they have side effects. So, I delved into some nutritional books and began my own research, becasuse after 6 months of his program it went down to just under 600.

That day I went to Henry's or Boney's which are health food markets, and I filled my cart with everything you can eat that naturally lower the lipids. This includes walnuts, pineapple, garlic and many other items. I got this info out of a nutrional book you can purchase.

I began my new diet of eating every 2-3 hours and munching on whole foods. I stopped smoking (never stopped my Merlot or Tequilla), and began going on walks, rollerskating and dancing (hence the Tequilla). I stopped taking the meds and just did the food thing. 3 months later my test came back at 236. I am now 56 and I eat snicker's candy bars instead of cheeseburgers. I limit the red meat and fat, I try to cook my veggies lightly and have learned to eat whole foods as much as possible.
I think this reveals enough for you to get with the program. If you can't do the whole thing just start with walnuts every day, and include lots of water. Then remove all the "white and processed foods" that you can and do it gradually. Learn to do some stretching like Yoga or whatever feels good to be doing on the floor (or the bed if you can't do the floor). Listen to your heartbeat, take the meds and keep improving your insights to your own body and especially pay attention to what foods you crave. They have mineral and vitamin elements that your body needs to stay in balance.

Do it. This is a disease that causes edemia (bloating and swelling), and clotting of your vital organs and veins. Most people who have this die from it without ever knowing they had it. My daughter is 37 and her level is higher than mine even tho she does the food thing right, but is not on the meds, yet. She is in a very high stress lifestyle. GOOD LUCK. goldy 8)
