Yes Buster and I understand the Depends brand has more sizes now (they used to only have 2) which was really needed.

When u and Blayneb mentioned the pad, I did miss the point. Now I know what u meant by “Underwear’.

i did go to Walmart. The ‘Depend’ brand has underwear, guard, pad and shield. Probably in the order of their absorbing ability. I was confused about which type I would need. Now it seems clear to me.

Thanks again for ur support! I appreciate it!

I would suggest the Depend underwear and a depend guard stuffed in the underwear. It is better to be safe than embarrassing yourself.

Latter on just use the guard. When your incontinence is down to a minimum use the shields.

I am thinking of the men that come after us. Maybe aquablade will prove to be durable. Possibly the en bloc no touch will become available in the US. FLA-BPH is in clinical trials.

Here is a printed document on HoLEP from New Zealand.

Stuffing guard inside paper underwear is really helpful information! Thanks!

The link that explains what to expect and how to prepare for holep is a hundred times better than what the hospital stuff told me and sent to me, basically not much at all.

Every patient should read the document contained in the link provided by buster before holep, immensely helpful!

I also like the figures showing the medium lobe as well as what happens to the prostate after holep, fascinating!

Thanks, buster!

This is what I would expect from Dr. Gilling the inventor do HoLEP. He does a great job. I gave this to Dr. Krambeck. He response was that IU is working on a brochure.

Between the brochure and the video the information is very instructive.

Another option that is being studied is high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) for BPH. Again this therapy started with prostate cancer.

Of note: Dr Miller said that any doubling of the PSA post Holep is to be considered cancer until proven otherwise. I too will be repeating my PSA shortly. Ordering the kit today plus seeing Dr Miller at the end of November for another assessment.

With the incontinence complication (less than 2% resulted from removing only 40% of the internal sphincter ) behind us, another complication scar formation actually has a higher occurrence percentage which is less than 5% (as told by Dr. Das).

According to buster link, urobop.co.nz/our-services/id/66, scar can form at the bladderneck called bladderneck stenosis, or/and urethra called urethra stricture. Both could cause severe blockage which requires re-operation.

Scar formation is a more serious threat after holep.

Would appreciate if someone could share their experience of constipation after holep.

I read that if lifting moderately heavy object within a month right after holep, could cause bleeding. Based on the same reason, For a patient who has chronic constipation, it seems that in order to avoid bleeding, it is advisable for him to take laxative for a month to avoid putting large force on the prostate.

I was advised by a nurse in the hospital that I should use a stool softener to avoid constipation. Constipation can cause damage to the very tender prostate.

Check with Dr. Das’s office for directions.

Yeah DL and Buster, Dr Das really wants constipation avoided. He told me to take Miralax once daily AND stool softeners (he gave me a script). I did this in addition to having a bowl of high fiber (12 to 14 grams per serving) cereal daily. If I ever did have an occurrence of having to push I always bled, sometime quite heavily. This occurred sporadically until the end of the 3rd month when it finally subsided.

Blayneb, good point about the cereal. I was and am still on fiber cereal due to my colectomy.
